(doing a Shika, again. if i’m not careful you all might start referring to it as “doing a yyyguy” - unlikely, i think.) anyhow, thanks to Tabby for breakfast. i’ll have the pancakes drowned in syrup (especially maple syrup) and bacon, with a glass of apple juice. i was just going to look at the comments after the turnover (after finishing the puzzles i didn’t finish yesterday morning) and found that, though the count was recorded, they weren’t actually showing up on screen. took a while to figure out (and i don’t really know why, i just backed right out and then came back on line and it’s working) and now i really need to get some sleep (or a gallon of nuclear coffee). Gone.

Well, here I am, last day of vacation, making the *&%# shopping list. I hate grocery shopping. I hated it when I had enough $$ to not worry too much about a couple of good tasting impulse buys, and I hate it now when I squeeze the penny so hard it become a ha’penny.

Going to stiffen the snowflakes in acrylic floor wax today. I have a good lot to take in to work to let my buyer pick out some of her 20 snowflakes ordered. And hey, if she likes them all and her order’s done, I can move on to other snowflake patterns.

Weather is hot and humid here, but the rain chances are on the increase. Surf’s up thanks to Bill, but so are rip currents and churned up garbage.

Got to finish the tour and then go bleechgrocery shopping. BBL

I have laughed so hard, my eyes are watering beyond belief, I came oh so close to watering my pants during several sentences, my stomach aches to high heaven, I stumbled all the way to the bathroom to get tissues for my eyes & relieve myself before my body decides to do it for me and my family thinks I need to go to the ER because my meds are giving me hallucinations.

Where do you come up with these stories, my friend. Please, if you write a book, I want one.

Rad - I’m afraid I can sympathize. I was repairing one for my Dad when I lived on the farm and had it go off in my lap >_<

I’m reminded of my (now deceased) father. He used to like to grab our hand, and then grab the electric fence. Thankfully, it wasn’t near as bad as what Rad shared with us.

Rad & DF.–The best I’ve had personally was trying to show my sister how I check for bad spark plug wires and spark plugs by pulling the plug wire with the engine running to see if the rpms dropped! It was when HEI systems first came out and at 16 I didn’t know the difference in voltage from a conventional system. Ha-ha, never did that again without a plug wire removal tool!!!! Still only a drop in a bucket compared to your story Rad!!!

RRA Mom - My dad used to pay my brother a quarter if he’d test the fence by grabbing the wire and sticking his finger in the snow…

Terry - Thanks, but when they were passing aout talent I thought they said gallant and replied I didn’t need any. Oh Well… I received that story this morning from my brother.

DF - My grandpa told us kids to stay away from those fences and why; and a couple cousins told us stories about what happens if you pee’d on it. Good enough for this kid even to this day.

I’ve been kicked by a bad 12v spark plug wire before. Dad thought it was mucho yucks.

Rad That was a good one, right on par with the guy called out of the shower to do something under the kitchen sink and the kitten thought his dangly bits were new toys. Good chuckles are needed.

I finished the #*%&^ grocery shopping. A Wal-Mart not my own, where do they keep this and that? I usually shop at one near my office on Friday after work so I can get it done and enjoy my ‘sleep late day’.

Snowflakes are dipped and drying beautifully. It’s amazing what a little stiffness can do to a limp pile of beads and string.

Hello to you too, Lonewolf! Since Friday’s my day off from teaching, I’m trying to get some other projects done. Hence, I’m not sitting at my desk as much, and just pop in & out. DFrog - Back when my dad was single, he took some bare wire, wove it through his car’s upholstery, and had a button he could push that allowed an electrical current to flow through the wiring. He only had it in the area close to the passenger door, and then pushed the button when he wanted his date to sit closer to him. My mom said he never pulled that trick on her, or she never would have married him.

RRAMom - My Dad told me of a similar prank they pulled on one of his friends when he was younger - they hooked a wire around one of the spark plugs and ran it underneath the drivers seat, and poked about 1/4” of bare wire up through the cushion…

Another cool car trick my Dad told me about was back in the days before catalytic converters. One of his friends welded a sparkplug into his tailpipe and rigged it to a switch on the dash. Then they’d drive down the street, he’d floor the gas so there was extra fumes in the exhaust and hit the switch and boom - fireball out the tailpipe :)

how did you do the resize?

My older son had a Dell laptop for about 4 years, it crashed, he called Dell, DAVE IN INDIA (LOL) and he got it working for awhile, then crashed again, he went to a Dell store, I think, or else he called India again. Anyway, my son says it can’t be fixed and to trash it. Is it worth taking it to our local computer store techs, or would it be cheaper to just buy a new one?

Dry–Take it to the computer techs and ask what they charge to attempt to restore the info from your hard drive. Then decide against the price of another one. But at least try to save your files.

Shika - “Kansas” was/is a musical group comprised of mostly Kansans. They were really big in the 70’s & 80’s. Google “Kansas musical group” and you should be able to find out more. I did that yesterday, because between people here discussing the group’s music, and that one of the founding members called in the same day on a “national talk radio show”, I wanted to find out just where in Kansas that member is living.

No, Shika - I didn’t see. The news in the U.S. doesn’t cover tornadoes in other countries much, unless a whole lot of people get killed, I guess. My heart goes out to the family. Where was the boy? In a mobile home a/k/a tornado magnet? Only once have I heard of a tornado-related fatality in a basement, and it was because the bricks from the fireplace fell in and hit the victim in the head. Usually deaths from tornadoes here are in mobile homes or cars. Several years ago, when a really strong (F-5) tornado came through Wichita, it killed some people in houses without basements, even though they were in a “small interior room on the lowest level” which is why I prefer basements. Time for me to head to bed. Good night y’all!

Shika I was not trying to hijack “doing a shika” i was afraid of getting my name tagged to it. I was on the list of those who appreciate Kansas (the band), but noted they were nowhere near my top favourite. top of the list, ahead of even the Beatles, is the Guess Who (from Winnipeg, though i don’t think i need to remind a Manitoban).

RRAmom Keep in mind we are not in tornado country here, so not everyone knows to go to the basement, especially a child.

It is very sad, but the boy was in a day camp and hid with other children inside a wooden enclosure for picnic tables. It collapsed, but only he was killed. The other children escaped with a few injuries.

This storm hit an urban area that seldom sees more that a thunderstorm.

We do have what we call “tornado alley” in the provence. In the winter, it is called the snow belt. I imagine that weather systems move between the Great Lakes there.

They would be more informed about storm warnings and safety precautions.

Thanks Dry. I was lucky. I think I mentioned last night what happened to me and my friends. Getting a soaker is nothing. At least we were inside in a safe place and unlikley to be hurt.

The most we worried about was the power going out while we ate in the restaurant.

Farther north of us, they are still without power, and homes.

Mopar-Now Edgar Winter Band is one of my favorites. But Johnny Winter is one of my favorite Guitar Players.

Terry Jimi did jam with Johnny Winter at least once at the Record Plant in NY in 1969. I do believe Jimi played bass though.

Guitar Player magazine had an article a bunch of years ago about what it would be like if Jimi had lived long enuff to play with current day guitarists and with modern technology. Although, Jimi did his most incredible stuff with no effects at all.
