Funny how the offspring of people who came here seeking opportunity and a better life, fleeing their own “crap hole” countries, feel entitled to be the gatekeepers for somebody else’s future grandparents seeking the same thing. Every now and again I try to visualize what the Statue of Liberty must’ve looked like when it was brand new and still made of glistening copper, before it became corroded into the blue-green cupric oxide we’re all familiar with today. Unfortunately, in 1886 they didn’t have color photography.
