Mmm… Just what I need for a good night’s sleep.

LuvH8, I love my coffee in the morning, but it does not keep me awake at bed time. I’ve always been lucky that way.

Lonewolf, I love my coffee anytime, and it has never kept me up. I used to wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep until I had a cup of coffee.

I think I may be an addict.

It is an addicting beverage. I usually drink more in the winter months up here and only one cup, maybe two in the summer.

I do ice coffee in the summer. I know I really should stop with the caffiene, but at least I don’t drink and have quit smoking.

I quit smoking 18 months ago. Cold turkey, too. One of the better choices I’ve made! LOL

I’m going to call it a night and hit the horizontal position.

Yguy–I’m at a point where I have to count to see how long it’s been. I play pool at bars and I never have an urge anymore to go outside and smoke with my friends. I’m cured!

I need to take my vicious dogs out and get a cup of “fancy” coffee. BRB

I still crave cigarettes, but I think it’s more in theory. Now I just have to remember how nasty that first cigarette is when you haven’t smoked in a while.

I don’t smoke cigarettes, but do enjoy cigars every so often.

Cigars? I only smoked one cigar when I was about 16, and wow did the odor linger.

johnnydoc5, Don’t you (or anybody else reading this who isn’t already a smoker) ever start smoking. It is so hard to quit. I did a research paper in college and they said it was about as hard to quit as cocaine.

Alrighty, dogs have done their thing and I’m back for a little while.

I never had a bad craving once I quit. Every now and then when I would be working on cars, I would reach for my shirt sleeve to get a cigarette but that was more habit. Once I remembered I quit, I was fine.

How long was it without smoking before you considered you had quit?

I don’t think I could handle smoking anything more than once a week. Terry, what kind of dogs do you have?

I considered myself done with cigarettes when I made the decision to quit. I had three left in the pack when I made the decision and when those were gone, I was done. I really thought I’d have a problem when I was drinking, but it never really bothered me other than the habit of “reaching” for the pack. I have had a full pack in my ‘70 Lincoln out in the garage since I quit and I’ve never had the urge to open it. I’m sure they are stale now! LOL

Well the day went from gray and pouring rain to sunny and warm, I will do another hike today after vacuuming.

I love Huskies, cool beans Terry. Carmy, I don’t think my stomach could handle anything more often than that. Cigars is powerful stuff.

I have never smoked cigarettes but like to smoke a cigar every once and awhile. My wife likes the way I smell afterwards, go figure. I use my grandfather’s humidor.

Lonewolf Nice looking dogs, when I was little my neighbor had a Siberian/wolf mix and I thought it was the most beautiful dog.

Carmy I have 1 biological daughter, her sister who I consider my daughter even though her dad and I separated when she was six, and 1 stray (my daughter’s friend) who insists on calling me “Mommy”, (she’s starting to feel like my daughter too so I count her also)

Terry I am having a wonderful day. It is a terrific day on the lake and in awhile I am going to go on another hike.

Lonewolf, that sounds interesting, so would you know whether or not wolves commonly attack people? I had read that it was unusual. The other night I was talking to my mom and she insisted that wolves were more likely to attack than coyote and wild dogs. I thinks wild dogs would be the most likely to attack a person.

What did you do in the military or is it a secret?

Wolves will avoid a confrontations with people and are not prone to attack. Coyote and wild dog attacks are not common either, though given the right circumstances anything can happen from any animal. Racoon attacks are more common because of their practice of digging through garbage.

I did many things in the military. Some other time perhaps. :^)

Lonewolf, Yes, I was pretty sure most would avoid a confrontation. I live where a lot of the ‘wild dogs’ come from dogs that used to be pets, but they don’t attack much either.

We are due for 5-8 inches by Saturday night sometime. Hope the wind doesn’t come up…

Back from my hike. I was actually able to hike in shorts and a T shirt, yes clothes, but the temp was ideal. It is 51 degrees and feels like 55 or so. I am so glad that we did not go away this winter.

@Shika, have we got snow? Have we got snow? We just got one door down to about six inches of hard-packed snow so we could at least use it–the sidewalk along the front of the house is hopeless until it melts–and now it’s buried again under another 3 or so feet of plowed snowpile…

bunnyface, so are you getting more snow than normal this winter? It certainly sounds like it. It sounds like some of the more intense winters I experienced there as a child.

Yeah, we had a bad winter in ‘97, then pretty light (sometimes cold, but little snow) through ‘008, but last winter and this one are snowy. With el Niño, which is supposed to have the opposite effect round here. Go figure.

We’ve gotten quite a bit more snow than usual this year also!

Cleo did I miss a post? When did you all start talking about NPR?

I’ve never listened to NPR, mostly because I don’t listen to the radio much, and when I do, it is usually to music or a ball game.

No snow in FL and that’s okay with me. The last time it snowed here and it was just a little more than a dusting mind you, there were accidents galore. No one knew how to drive in the snow.

Dry, bunnyface had a link to snow that was an NPR link. I ran with it. I actually do not listen to the radio much, but my wife does occasionally. In the last year or so, she has gotten away from the radio and has gone more towards downloading podcasts. As I have gotten older, I find I no longer need the radio or TV, I prefer quiet.

This cross posting can come across like a lecture with us all saying the same thing. LOL

Bunnyface (gosh that sounds funny), are you familiar with Clay Jenkinson? He is a North Dakota professor that portrays Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Oppenheimer. My wife likes to download the Jefferson hour where he plays Jefferson and is interviewed. We went to one of his lectures in Seattle, very interesting.

I’ve heard him, and I think I’ve seen him, but don’t recall exactly. He also writes a column in several local papers.

hello Tribe i’m back for a brief visit, since i start work at 7:00 am tomorrow. just thought i’d look in and see how people are doing. re: the NPR talk a little while back, i listen to it when i’m driving in the US because i like listening to classical music when i drive and they’re the most consistent purveyors of it that i’ve found on regular radio (i don’t have satellite in the car.) as for bunnyface, the name reminds me of an old country tune. (funny face was the name but i don’t remember the name of the woman who recorded it. Donna Fargo, perhaps.) lastly, the snow. the National Lacrosse League has postponed the Saturday night game scheduled for Philadelphia due to the snow storm causing the flights for the participating teams to be cancelled.

Tabby it doesn’t matter what the ice cream looks like so long as it tastes good! (and it almost always does, in my experience.) enjoy it! LuvH8 you complimented my sunglasses earlier and i wanted to thank you. my old specs had those clip on sunscreen lenses for them. when i got new specs, i turned the old frames into prescription sunglasses because the clip ons wouldn’t fit the new ones. now i have sunglasses with clip on sunglass lenses. (real handy for driving into bright winter sunshine.)

yguy Howdy! And yes, all of the Mid Atlantic and upwards is being snowed in! Pretty sight until it stops! Snow plows have been going up and down my street for a couple of hours now, and it’s stil snowing, 24 hours of it if you can believe that!

@Dry stay safe, my friend! we’ve been fortunate, in my area that we’ve really not had any snow storms to speak of this winter (knock on wood). just enough has fallen to allow me to take some pretty photos in the winter sunshine.

nothing like a walk in a snowfall - when the world closes in around you because all of the sounds are dampened by the falling flakes. especially at night when they turn the streetlights into halos.
