Reminds me of two visiting French engineers at our company in the 1960s. They were our customers so we were polite but the two wreaked body odor…..nobody wanted to work with them. Never did figure out why they didn’t bathe.

On one of the episodes of “Too Cute” featured a recently rescued cat and her litter of black and white kittens … to which was added a rescued orphaned baby skunk. Mama cat welcomed it to the “dinner table”, and it grew up alongside the kittens, more than living up to the series title. (When I Googled “too cute rescue kitten and skunk”, I found several YouTube clips—well worth watching.)

    Stay upwind!

We had a skunk visit our back yard a couple of times even though I live right here in Silicon Valley not far from Google. My dog let me know of the visitor by getting “skunked” both times. Poor guy didn’t learn the first time.

a skunk, having had her anal glands removed when she was spayed, made a beautiful and faithful companion for her 12 years with us. She ate cat food, was litterbox trained and loved to cuddle.

For some reason, too, it seems that the longer/thicker the fur, the more attracted to such ‘aromatic’ things these dogs are.

Americans are obsessed with cleanliness and odors. We use soap on our skin then have to use lotion to keep our skin ‘soft’. While I’m not advocating no soap, I am saying that there are ‘zones’ which need to be washed daily but not biggest organ on the body (skin). LTHB.

Considering what dogs like to roll in, I wouldn’t think they would be offended too much.

I was lucky a few years ago with my dog and a skunk. She went chasing after it in the tall grass and quit when she got a nosefull of the “perfume” in the grass the skunk sprayed. She only got a little on her nose and chest from the grass and not a direct shot, so the smell wasn’t too strong. Although I was glad I had the truck and drove home with her in the back. This happened in the evening and she wondered why I was giving her a bath at night.

Important social note. Skunks do not have an offensive body odor. Their chemical weapon is a ranged attack.
