Trump Media accounting firm charged by SEC with ‘massive fraud’
BF Borgers, the accounting firm hired by Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ:DJT), was charged Friday by the SEC with “massive fraud” involving more than 1500 SEC filings.
The SEC alleges that BF Borgers engaged in “deliberate and systemic failures to comply with Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) standards in its audits and reviews” included in SEC filings from January 2021 to June 2023.
The firm was also charged with falsely representing to clients that the accounting work would comply with PCAOB standards; fabricating audit documentation; and falsely stating in audit reports included in SEC filings that audits complied with PCAOB standards.
As part of a settlement, BF Borgers will pay a $12M civil penalty and company owner Benjamin Borgers will pay a $2M civil penalty.
