So, just a few days ago, I turned over 200,000 miles on my car, hoping to get another 38,900 miles out of it so I could say that it travelled the distance from here to the moon. Well, I’m still hoping I can do it, but it all depends on what my mechanic has to say and what my insurance company has to say. While driving home from work Tuesday night, I saw an animal running across the highway. I slammed on my brakes trying to avoid it, but the “ka-thump” that I heard told me that I hit the critter. I didn’t run over it with my tires, but it hit the underside of my car pretty hard. Of course, it was dark, so I can’t say for certain what it was, but I believe it was a raccoon. It was too big to be a cat. At first I thought it might be a coyote, but I think it was smaller than a coyote. I turned around to see if I could find what I had hit, but I couldn’t find it. So whatever I hit got off the road and probably died. Anyway, I got home okay and then on Wednesday, I headed for work as usual. But halfway to work, the car overheated. I pulled to the side of the road and called AAA. I was stranded there for about an hour, with cars whizzing by me before the tow truck arrived. It took me and my car to my local mechanic. a little less than a mile from my house, so an easy walk home. Anyway, it seems that hitting that raccoon did some heavy damage under my car. BJ mentioned the radiator and the condenser and I think maybe the oil pan (and I just had the oil changed a week ago). Of course, while waiting for the to truck, I called in an absence from work. So, because the damage to my car was caused by an accident, I’m hoping the insurance company will come through and pay for repairs and a rental car while the car is being fixed. It could take several days for the car to be fixed because BJ, being a popular mechanic, is very busy for the next several days.
I have about 185,000 miles on mine. Never thought about the distance to the moon. Now I have a new goal! Best of luck with your car, or as I call mine, my baby. LOL
“Yarf” sounds like a combination of “yip” and “arf”. Quite clever. I wonder what they’re saying. (Sorry, I don’t speak poodle.) On another note saw a butterfly, a junco, a raven, and a wren while out walking today.
