That reference to “the war” makes me think this strip is pre-1975.

It’s getting to be election season around here; all the candidates are putting up their signs. It seems this is the only time we hear from them and I think they like it that way.

Not like that here unfortunately. What I would like to see is that running for office (Local and Federal) had a time limit and expenditure cap. With the maximum length being 3 months for POTUS.

Oh, and among the most annoying scams for support are those that CONSTANTLY come to your phone saying, “I don’t want money just your thoughts.”, give your thoughts and then scroll to send , guess what pops-up? You got it! Have to send some amount of money before they will accept your answer. WHAT A LOAD OF HORSE PUCKEY!!!

There’s no indication of the year this was published but I bet the war referenced was World War II.

According to Wikipedia, Al Smith drew Mutt & Jeff from 1932 until 1980, but didn’t sign his own name to it until Bud Fisher, the strip’s originator, died in December 1954. Which would seem to indicate that Vietnam is the war referred to. (The lack of background would be enough to make me suspect a period quite some time after Fisher’s signature stopped appearing, but I’m no expert in such things.)

True to a great extent. Mine just passed on, but some other corrupt bum will replace him in our one party district.

Jeff, please don’t complain to your congressman about anything the artist is doing. Too many of those people already don’t understand the First Amendment.
