Today, a women’s section would seem archaic. But it would still be interesting, lol! It’s probably called something else now, like the society section, or such!
An old strip, the series title of which I can’t recall, showed a mother finding her early-teens son’s stash of certain magazines. She was starting to give him a “reproving-yet-understanding” lecture on how she knew, as a growing boy, he’d be interested in … and then realized the magazines were Ladies’ Home Journal. He hung his head and admitted that he liked the lingerie ads (presumably because these showed the lingerie being worn by good-looking and shapely women). This was back in the days before “Not that there’s anything wrong with that,” so Mom’s response to his confession was, “Thank goodness! I mean — you should be ashamed.”
Ah, back in the days when newspapers were great. I’m not talking about anything political. I just mean a full, fleshed out paper with many sections of interest. You even looked at the ads…in detail!
I worked at a call center many moons ago and walked in carrying the newspaper. One of my co-workers asked if he could have the Sports section. I told him as soon as I’m finished reading it. Two things wrong there: assuming I didn’t read sports and buy your own newspaper!

Timing is everything, Fred. And, yeah, men are just as interested in gossip and society goings on as women are. Some any way.

Wow – I know we are in early strips, but just how old is this one? The last time I heard the term “women’s page” was in the 70s.
