This comment about Andy being mistaken for Flo’s Dad reminds me that Andy and Flo are based on Reg Smythe’s own parents. He originally planned to name them Bill and Flo after his parents but changed Bill Capp to Andy Capp as a pun on Mr Capp being a handicap to Mrs Capp.

I also remember that a reader asked some months ago whether Flo is Andy’s mother. Several readers were quick to point out that they are husband and wife. However, Reg Smythe admitted that Andy became more childlike as the strip progressed and Flo became more like a mother to him because of this.

Now Andy is the poor ol lad. A new angle for cadging. He shall use this to his advantage.

However, no way Dad turned down a free pint. Dilly! Dilly!

That must be a rare case where Andy declined a free beer.

Drinking ages you, Andy. So maybe it’s best to wait until you’re already old to start.

Flo is loving that!

Flo deserves a nice compliment. Glad that she’s enjoying it. (And will probably hold it in reserve to throw in Andy’s face now and again.)
