I am a member of a group that helps people organize a job search. We help with their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, networking and mock interviews. We also provide moral support.
Many people, especially men, define their self-worth by their job title. Ask a man, who are you and they are likely to answer, “I’m the Executive Vice President of Left Handed Widget Production.” Ask a woman and she’ll tell you “I’m a mom with three kids.” Not all, of course.
When these people lose their job, they lose their identity and self-respect. It is difficult to get them to believe that they still have the talents that made them successful. They may have to disassemble these talents and put them together in a different format.
I shall never forget Zero Mostel as the man who was turning into a rhinoceros, in the movie based on Eugene Ionesco’s play about creeping fascism. Check it out. The theme is recurring in our present day.

Dang, that’s funny with a hint of double entente plus subtle a wisp of vulgarity. Perfect for starting a beautiful Saturday.
