We once looked at a house from the 60’s & the ceiling texture looked like another world landscape. There were spikes ranging from 1/2" to 3"s. It was butt ugly & had collected a ton of grey dust / dirt.
Our dog would take a running start and slide down the hall on the carpet runners. They would slide halfway up the wall. We said we had floor to ceiling carpeting.
Our house had two carpeted walls when we bought it. One wall had tack strips at the top and bottom, and shag carpet. The other had a short pile carpet that was glued to the wall. The first was easy, just rip it down, patch the holes, and paint. The glued carpet took part of the drywall with it when we took it down. We paneled that wall, replacing the drywall wasn’t in the budget.

My Uncle in the 90’s had a loft apartment that had no windows and floor to ceiling covered shag carpeting. Must have been brutal in the summer months.

I’d rather have a carpeted ceiling than this stupid craggy roughage stuff.
