It is the liquid quantity you adjust based upon the other ingredients that make the difference, for example adding stewed tomatoes. I really enjoy the Chinese fried rice with bits of egg in it. Unfortunately, the GF wants her takeout rice no egg, plain and bland before her added soy sauce.
