Tasteless cartoon.

I don’t think it’s the right time for a cheap shot. This is much more hurtful than humorous. Let the fans mourn.

I don’t know - I think it’s pretty apt, given that the man’s sizable talent was overshadowed in recent years by his personal problems and proclivities.

The AJC (the paper Mike works for) let’s people give a thumbs up or down to his work. This is the first one I’ve seen that had more downs than ups. I think it was 70% down 30% up last time I looked.

This one was in poor taste.

I’m not a Michael Jackson fan, and I usually enjoy Mike Lukovitch’s humor, but this was seriously in poor taste.

Come on; can’t you see the humor? That’s why we’re at this site in the first place. It’s the clearest retrospective yet!

Actually, 70% down could be a good measure for a lot of political cartoonists. As the late, great Doug Marlette (whom I knew slightly, and who worked for the AJC for a while) said, it’s not their job to make people happy or to be fair.

I miss Doug Marlette!

It may be in poor taste but considering the love fest I keep running into on the TV someone should mention the dartk side. No he wasn’t ever convicted. However, is this because he was innocent or because he was wealthy and publically popular?

There’s a very special room in heII for child-abusers - no doubt The Thriller has found his.

I heard about one 20 million dollar settlement. There may be others. I’ve never particularly liked Jackson’s music and tried to avoid the news about him(good luck) whenever possible.

This gag will work in a few years if you replace the newspaper headline with “Dubya, RIP!”.

And yet, for all the focus on his life, not a single piece of evidence has ever come out that Jackson ever did such a despicable thing.

In fact, those that immediately jump on to the “he’s a child molester!” bandwagon have more issues than he did; they’re the ones that think everything must always be sexual all the time.

I liked Michael during the Thriller album time period. Could never figure out how he turned out like he did…

And on a side note, was almost named Michael… Told my mom I’d have smacked her if she named me that. I like the name Michael Jackson, though… just not what it makes ppl think now…

daniel - Jackson got acquitted once, and settled once. The truth may never be known, but there is no doubt he had a very troubled life, starting from abusive parents putting him out as an entertainer at age nine.

Being aquitted means you are legally innocent. Note the word legally. It does not necessarily mean that you didn’t do it. The large settlement out of court definitely does not prove innocence. I agree that it does not prove guilt. However, my take on that issue has nothing to do with my opinion of his music. There are a number of people walking the streets that are guilty as well as a large number of people in prison who are innocent. Our courts are nowhere near perfect.

I like it. It shows the duality of Michael’s nature and the media coverage of him. There was the talented Michael that many adored and thought of as a saint and the “wacko Jacko” Michael who may or may not have done unspeakable things. This cartoon captures both without making a judgement.

Remember those who’ve died, but don’t make something of them which they weren’t.
