Sometimes people see the imitation of themselves as copycatting. I had a frenemy like that. She had a whistle and I wanted one for Christmas. She said I couldn’t ask for one because I’d be copying off of her. It never occurred to me to tell her I had already asked before I ever knew she had one. And I got two whistles that Christmas. Crummy plastic toy ones that don’t even have the little bobbin in them. Years later in my 30s, my best friend bought me one. A nice one.
