Is it usual to drive through wild-animal country, and so close to the animals, in a convertible?

To me a bear is a roadside distraction. Whenever anything unusual appears (a bear would be one in Germany) the drivers are distracted and become dangerous. The most accident prone part of an autobahn along Stuttgart is the one that is right under the landing strip of Stuttgart airport.

Must be in Yellowstone. The tourons seem to think the wild animals are just part of a theme park.

One does not see a bear every time they are out for a drive, so bears are something to exclaim about.

Last year we were at Cades Cove in Tennessee and a bear with her cub walked across the road. The cub stopped on one side while mama bear continued across into the tall grass. Some idiot got out of his car and took his young daughter out to see and photograph the cub, putting him directly between the cub and mama bear. I yelled at him to get his daughter back in the car. If he wanted to tackle an angry bear by himself, so be it. But I wasn’t going to watch a kid get mauled because of his stupidity.

Adrian Raeside uses a camera with rolling shutter from top to bottom for his studies of the pictures he draws. The way the moving objects – like here the cars – are distorted doesn’t happen in my imagination, but with such cameras it does.

Look, there, a bear! Where? There, with black hair. But do you really care? Look, another Bear! (Backseat ADHD driver. Please keep your hands of the radio!)

In the MidWest we point out any animals we see while driving. Cows! Horses! Sheep! Alpacas!
