My MIL fell in the kitchen this week, she’s fine but she’d rather sit in her chair then getting up and walking around. My hubby told her that she needs to walk so her muscles don’t grow soft.
One of the physical effects of Alzheimer’s is Rhabdomylisis (spelling?), a weakening of the muscles. My husband just started falling for no obvious reason. I wish the neurologist had talked to me more directly about that; it would have been good to have more knowledge of it sooner.
I had slipped in the bathtub a few years ago (have since made sure to have a slip resistant mat in there). I knew if I tried to stop myself, I would have hurt myself. So, I allowed myself to go, relaxed a bit and just came out with a little bit of soreness. And that was when I was in my forties. Doesn’t matter the age, you can slip anywhere, it’s how you land that makes a difference in what type of injury you get.

I have had a few conrolled landings. It s all in the knowing how to fall without breaking anything. especially a wrist, ankle, etc.

In the last few years I’ve discovered that sitting down is nothing more than a controlled fall.

I fell so many times last year with only breaking my left arm near the shoulder. This year is almost the same but this time I broke a spot in my back.

That old school training to Tuck & Roll still comes in handy. Harder to execute when you find yourself airborne over slick ice.

I almost had one of those last night, thanks to one of my cats.
