That depends on how crappy the original was, but then that begs the question; why remake a piece o’ shyte?

Tom Hanks’ remake of “The Ladykillers” is the only exception, in my view.

One day Frog Applause will be remade as an opera. With dancing chainsaws.

My hedgehog and I have a corolary to your hypothosis; never make sequels. As they said in Highlander (but NOT in Highlander II, III or IV) “There should be only ONE!”

Well the shower season in Van Sant’s version had more nudity. Nudity does so much to save a movie.

I agree that most classic films should never be remade. However, one classic movie that I can think of (and I believe there are others), the Ingrid Bergman-Charles Boyer version of Gaslight, was itself a remake.

Plays get restaged all the time. Movies are not that sacred. That said, I’d like to see some of the more mediocre ones get a good workover. Might be interesting.

The worst part of remaking classic movies is how they pretend that they’re the original one. Normally they completely ignore the original version. Psycho was a rare exception.

I’m with Blue Raven…but, then, I’m in theatre. I would think that’s the right way to do things, wouldn’t I?

Frankly, though, I’d rather see a movie that admits that it’s a remake rather than a movie that just rips off the original without admitting it.

I reckon Peter Jackson’s remake of King Kong was pretty good (and the other remake was horrible…)
