Until I was 5 we lived a block away from mom’s parents in Brooklyn. A block beyond that was my great aunt (grandma’s sister) and uncle who had not had any children of their own, so they were like a third set of grandparents – much spoiling.
One day I decided I wanted to walk to kindergarten alone – at this point I was only 4. The school was on our side of the main road, so I only had to cross the 3 side roads and she agreed. She stood outside while I crossed our street. At the next street surprisingly my grandfather was just out from the candy store where he had bought the paper and he walked across the street with me. I walked on. Even odder, my great uncle was just out for a walk at the next corner! Again we walked across the street together to my school.
It took me years to figure out that I had not walked to school alone at all and none of the coincidences were same.
Of course grandchildren are the purpose that grandparents and even one’s great piblings are for.

When we had grandkids, we moved all the breakable stuff up. They did not go back down until the grandkids were old enough.

If you’re not prepared to raise children, you shouldn’t have any.
