While buying stuff from Amazon has become a conspicuous habit (especially in 2020, during the pandemic), in the tech world Amazon has been described as “a cloud computing company with a bookstore attached.” Their cloud service AWS is what powers a lot of the services we rely on…when AWS has a hiccup, a lot of the stuff I have to use for school chokes. When Microsoft has a hiccup, the rest of the stuff I have to use for school chokes. The potential single points of failure in our society are rather scary…
