He has a point, though, that would be a cool twist.

When he’s fully in charge, he can make whatever changes he wants.

If he wants to play well with others in charge …

… he’ll have to play the play as they see it was meant to be played.

oh, they’ve been tweeked many times. But it would have been better if he said,"This is the .44 shillelagh. The most powerful shillelagh in the world. And it could thump your mellon clean off any second. Feel lucky, lad ?

“Perge, fac me hodie” funny, but not idiomatic.

If the real world ever comes crashing down on this little goblin it may just cause him to combust or turn him into a real boy.

Shakespeare can survive a fair amount of tweaking. But change it too much, and it’s your play rather than his.

“Why did you cut these lines?” “Because my vision of the play doesn’t work if I leave them in.”

“Why did you add these lines?” “Because my vision of the play doesn’t work without them.”

“West Side Story” isn’t “Romeo and Juliet,” but it doesn’t call itself “Romeo and Juliet,” so that’s fine, and I can like it on its own terms. Still, I wonder whether Arthur Laurents, Jerome Robbins, Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein ever discussed “Can we sell tickets if Maria dies in the end too, or is that too much of a downer for the audience?”

(And no, “The Lion King” is NOT AN ADAPTATION OF “HAMLET,” so stop saying it is! The differences (apart from it being about lions) greatly outweigh the similarities.)

Many of Shakespeare’s scribbles have been used as the basis of plots for books, movies and plays. He was the original inspiration for some of the better stories around today.

Write your own play. Leave Shakespeare alone.

it isn’t just a Shakespear play, it’s an actual historical event, Caesar actually WAS assassinated, even if it wasn’t as dramatic and over the top as it was in the play this is straight up revisionism…which is perfectly on brand with a wealthy conservative
