rayannina for teenagers they don’t go to bed especially during summer until the sun comes up when there is no school. Yes teenagers do get the rights read to them when being arrested for a crime then searched for illegal contraband that happens allot.
“A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty “Hi-yo, Silver!””
All Calvin has (in panel one) is the cloud of dust. It’s no wonder he got caught. Where is the transmogrifier when Calvin needs it?
rayannina – Miranda applies to juvenile. At least to those arrested for crimes. However, Miranda applies to what is considered permissible government behavior, not to parental discipline.
You have the right to remain silant (& in bed). You (don not have a right to spreak an attorny, nor to have him present durring your spanking. If you choose to keep talking you will loose your privlage to play outside all week long.
Do you understand these rights as I have explained them to you (again)??
NOW GO TO BED!!!
Calvin has the right to have his rear end tanned and I’d bet that is what a sixth frame would show, judging by his mother’s expression in the fifth frame.
While there seem to be indications here of Calvin’s future employment as a lawyer, at the moment he needs his present lawyer (Hobbes) to represent him before the court of MOM as she prepares to read him the Riot Act….
When I was his age, I didn’t have any rights – especially where bedtime was concerned and they would have put me to bed at 2:00 in the afternoon if they could. I swear my bedtime got earlier as I got older.

ladywolf17 about 14 years ago
You have the right to march that little fanny back to bed mister! Failure to meet this right will be met with dire consequences.

Not in this instance, rayaninna. It only applies when one is being arrested, not when one is being sent to bed.

Never been read the Calvin Rights!
moronbis about 14 years ago
If Calvin knows that his mom has to read him the rights, then he must also know his rights.
But, moms have their own rules. Better follow them Calvin.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
That’s right, let’s get it straight Mom!
harrietbe about 14 years ago
He might get further by saying she forgot to read him a story. But then, reading Calvin his “rights” is perhaps more appropriate.
lazygrazer about 14 years ago
Careful Mom, a head lock might be considered child abuse in some states.

I think as far as Calvin is concerned, they are one and the same thing.

Calvin hasn’t realized yet that he lives in an absolute dictatorship called Momland. Martial law applies and rights don’t exist.
woodwork about 14 years ago
we used to read our kids a story called “Bedtime for Francis”…Calvin reminded me of that one.
