My mother and I made some candles when I was around 12. We melted old candle stubs for the wax, and used the cardboard tubes from toilet paper as a mold. I guess juse ordinary string for the wicks.
I somehow doubt that Martha Stewart actually lived by the calendar in her magazines. She only made things by hand in front of the camera and no doubt had her assistants do most of the work.
