Once upon a time, that was a noble and admirable quality employers rewarded. Now? "Call that sucker who never turns off his phone. What? He wants a raise? Can him and find another one. :-(
They used to call that part of the American spirit. I’m afraid that a lot of people at work don’t like someone who shows how much work they could be doing if they applied themselves.
My husband. A Master Electrician for nearly 50 years. 71 years old and several companies still call him in for emergencies after they try other electricians who can’t figure it out. He only works a day or two a week but he does love to feel needed. He says the kids these days aren’t learning How electricity works, just how to stick the wires together.
I like his spirits. Though the company many try to exploit him, but I appreciate this for a colleague who needs a dire break from his shift. The Gumbos are the best!
Jimbo’s can do attitude died with the loss of Unions. If they called me in early to my shift I got 1.5X pay for the early hours and 2X pay for the last hours equal to the early hours. All because we were unionized.

I hate to break it to you Jimbo, but if profits don’t perpetually go up like rockets, this won’t stop them from eventually laying you off anyway.

Watch out Jimbo….the more you comply to a company’s request, the more they’re going to ask from you because in your own words, you “can’t say no!”

I don’t know whether to admire him as a working class hero or pity him as a tool of the elite.
