I think it’s safe to assume Santa has a dog sled for everyday use, like grocery shopping. And a few elk hounds to carry it through the snow. They look like big, strong dogs, and a big guy like Santa can probably put away a whole lot of groceries.
My parents used to have a Norwegian Elkhound. Sweet dog, but very protective of his people. He once backed a salesman against the wall and wouldn’t let him leave until my mom got there to call him off.

It’s raining deer? Is that worse than raining cats and dogs?

The Elf Hounds use the Hound Observation Worldwide Link (HOWL) to get through to the Pole during snowstorms!
