Believe me, you WANT a cat to make a big deal when shut in. I found one of my cats after he had been locked in a basement for three days. I found Johnny Depp in a garage after only a few hours because he MEOWED LIKE CRAZY until I heard him. A neighbor’s cat got locked up somewhere (probably by a weekend homeowner) and showed up a week later, deathly thin. He did survive and thrive but, for cats, an open interior door policy is best.

One of my cats has the unfortunate of habit of grooming behind an open door. She leans on the door to get better stretching for grooming and moves closer, when the door swings away. Eventually, she leans enough times to close the door.
