My mother would do the laundry and fold the towels a certain way to put in the linen closet. Then she would take a towel out, unfold it, and refold it a different way to put in the bathroom.
I asked her why she didn’t fold them the final way in the first place, and she was horrified at the thought, explaining that that’s not the right way to do it.
Clearly, she doesn’t care about having updated addresses for Christmas card senders. It’s an easy way to “lose” acquaintances, when they don’t send you a card the following year, because they did not get yours. It’s “nonjudgemental”, which seems to be a big thing for a lot of people.
The system our parents used were not the right way to do things so we modified those systems to be the right way (to us). Our children thing the system we use is not the right way so they modify it to be the right way (for them). I suspect this has been happening ever since parent had children.
Yesterday afternoon the whole house shook and there was a booming sound. I immediately checked for earthquakes that would affect us since that is the same things that happened when we experience previous quakes. Nothing. Saw today a huge crack in the ice across the middle of the bay. The pressure that built up to form that crack was enough to shake the house. Never underestimate the power of Mother Nature.
Bet the same thing happens in the voting booth. “No, I don’t know anything about his or her policies. But since I always vote for that party’s candidates, why waste time reading.”

When our parents grow old, we can instruct them on the “right way” of doing, well, everything!

“If it has broken, don’t fix it?” Sounds about right for our little nut-jobs, doesn’t it?
