The logic is amazing?
As I recall from my gym going days, January always browught scads of pot bellied guys and bikini clad babes. All gone by February.
The Julian calendar changed the start of the year from March to January.
Originally, I’m told, the year started with the winter solstice. That old “round off error" has killed one calendar after another.
Today, people like to label the seasons by how they feel.
Were Julian & Greg friends? And Who was the guy before them?
About 400 years ago, New Years was celebrated in March …
and Gregorian chant is even older.
I guess that years are defined by the sun; and months -sort of - by the moon. One sort of wonders why there aren’t ten months per year.
Not certain I want to hear “YMCA” done as a Gregorian chant…
January first as new year’s predates the Gregorian, or even Julian calendars, going back at least as far back as 153 BCE.
Not true Frazz. There were gyms in the Greek culture four centuries before the Gregorian calendar.
Good clarification, Frazz.
If the Gregorian calendar predates even the YMCA, what did the Village People sing back then?
“Go West”?
Thanks to the Gregorian Calendar, 01 January is stuck in winter north of the equator. With the Julian Calendar, 01 January would have kept slowly wandering through the seasons.
My ex would be in the hot tub or the steam room. He considers those his hobby
