In one of my groups of friends, that is called “pulling an Irv,” after the guy who, when he wanted to go to bed, would just totally tank out of whatever game he might have been playing. To be fair, that is still better than the sourballs who will simply abandon an online game they are losing rather than finish it.
Many years ago, playing Monopoly with my wife and some friends, somebody sold a property for $500 to somebody else that gave them a Monopoly and pretty much gave them the game. When aske why he did that, he responded “but it was $500!” I had to remind him it wasn’t real money. :-)
I tried to play Monopoly online alone and it was so boring. Evidently handling all the bit and pieces and haggling or arguing with other players is what makes the game enjoyable.

In chess-boxing, competitors have been known to throw the chess game so they can stop getting punched in the head. Yes, chess-boxing is a real thing.

If Camus had known about Monopoly he would have had the game in No Exit. My personal idea of hell is a Monopoly game in an IKEA store.
