I’m glad I’m well off and retired. I do feel compassion for those elderly people who have to work to make ends meet. There are those that do it to have a purpose in life, though.
A lot people have said that Andy Capp is the European equivalent of Maynard G. Krebbs. the European equivalent of Gilligan (the other character played by Bob Denver) would be an accident prone fellow named Gaston Lagaffe. (No, it’s not Captain Haddock, you Bashi Bazouks, although setting fire to a life boat does seem like something Gilligan would do.)
