    To clear up some of the confusion here: when a cat shows you its belly, it’s showing that it trusts you enough to make itself vulnerable. It’s not showing that it wants you to take advantage of that vulnerability.

    Although we had a cat once who actually liked tummy rubs.

    Cats are widely known for affectionate nips. Most exhibit the behavior as kittens and scared humans discourage them out of it. It really is a sign of affection, if they don’t break the skin. I have had many a kitten “calibrating” its jaw pressure on my fingers. It’s best to to react BEFORE the pressure is actually painful but not to overreact or they forget the “setting”.

    Feral cats who have been homed will occasionally bite, but not hard. I have two cats who were feral 10 years ago; the female is still iffy but the male is a big, floppy doll.
