I wish I could have had more “girl time” with my sisters before Martha died a few years ago. I remember when our mom died, the family gathered together at Daniel’s house. I think this was after the funeral, but I can’t remember for sure (it was over 20 years ago). I don’t even remember how it came about, but someone asked if there was anything I wanted or needed. I told them that I wanted some sister time with Martha and Mary and without the brothers. Some of my brothers could not seem to understand that. They said I was already with my sisters. Yes, I was with my sisters, but I wanted time alone with just the three of us. It wasn’t even just “girl time” I needed. I didn’t even want our nieces there. I just wanted sister time. Our brothers finally agreed that Mary, Martha and I could leave the family gathering to go to my house, but since they had ordered some pizza, we needed to return to Daniel’s house when the pizza arrived. It was such a relief to me to be away from the guys! We talked and shared things like we had never had a chance to do before. And in a way that we could not have done with the rest of the family there. I can’t even describe how it made us all feel, sharing this time with just the three of us. To say it was uplifting falls short of describing it, but that’s the only word I can come up with. Our sister time was over all too quickly. Why did we ever agree to return to Daniel’s house, I wonder? Who needs pizza? We could have eaten something at my house. But it was sure nice while it lasted, getting away from the guys.
