A lot depends on the subject matter of the clues. I have a lot of assorted bits and pieces of knowledge of the decades of my life and I love to read history. Where I have giant gaps is contemporary youth culture like movies, music, and especially slang. Plus the more deviously the clues are written separates the easy from the very difficult.
People’s names get me every time. I have enough trouble keeping mine and the cats names straight. But 99% of the time I can finish the crossword puzzle every day, in ink. (mom taught me to use ink)
