When my dad passed, he and my mom were living in an assisted living development. My mom was in no state to sort through the stuff. I had the movers come in and move everything to a storage unit. I told her there is no hurry, take as much time as you need. Whenever you say that you have everything you want I’ll have the junk haulers clean out the storage unit. There is no time table for grief.
The youngest (when he was a sight younger) & I were, for reasons lost in the mists of time, digging in my toolbox; I held up a boring implement (OK, an implement for boring; actually quite interesting) and hit him with “Some day, my son, this awl will be yours.”
I still relish the look on his face as did a face-palm head-shake; I knew my fatherly duty had been done.

I plan to take out the few things worth saving and have junk collectors come take the rest.
