Good afternoon Tribe. I’m doing better, but my voice is still squeeky/creaky. Hopefullyitll be up to par Mondaywhen I go back to work. Kinda hard to answer the phones with a voice sounding like Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

I got home late yesterday, about 11:30pm, so I thoughtI would wait for da change and see if I could be first and surprise everyone. 12:30am came, no change. I checked previous postings and found it was usually about 1:30ish am when th change occured, and I was already exhaused. My spouse was chuckling as he watched me press and repress the refresh button. I retreated to a pretty decent night’s sleep.

So, recommendations for the ones who are FIRST but no one else is around to appreciate a hot breakfast. Break out the breakfast cereals, fruits, and such. Boiled eggs are quick and easy and would last long enough on th table for the hungry hoard to approach.

Oh heck with it…I know what you’re waiting for….

Yes: to all the tribe, have a most joyous Fourth, don’t eat too much (to the point of stomachache), and enjoy the fireworks. Unless you are of the four-footed, furry persuasion, as in feline or canine. In that case, you have permission to cower under the bed howling. Or hissing and growling.

One thing about living in an affordable gated community (usually the two do not go together, and my spouse is unemployed)……..we got a little notice reminding us fireworks were forbotten within the complex and anyone setting them off would be subject to The LAW I’m not sure what the city’s policy on fireworks is, however, I remember a clause we initialed was ‘no fireworks, bbq grills no closer than 10’ to building, etc’. I suspect offenders will be evicted.

Anywho…that means my sweet Stormy is fixing to enjoy her 2nd year of peace and quiet on the 4th and upcoming New Year’s. Not to mention me….I startle easily.

I’m not going to make it early to set breakfast,so I have put some Krispy Kreams and banana’s inDry ‘s cupboard for tomorrow’s feast. Enjoy tomorrow.

@Shika, the one (17 mad hours ago) where I said, “No, but like any wisdom saying, you must adapt it to your own circumstances. For you, it should say, ‘Why keep a cat and hiss and spit and growl for yourself?’

“On the other hand, it sometimes is fun to hiss and growl like a cat, especially when some animal deserves it. On the other other hand, I don’t have a cat (or a dog either), so I am justified in barking or howling or hissing or any other dang-blasted sound I care to make.”

Mua says “meow” to Stormy. Hope she’s not to fussy about who meows to her. Mua has a really soft heart, and just loves other cats. He doesn’t know how to play macho cat with other cats, he’s just so happy to see someone like himself! LOL

Shemp was the second one. He and Moe and the original Curly were brothers. Larry was a man of many talents that they picked up on the way. Curly had health problems and died young. Shemp replaced him, but died shortly afterward. He was replaced by Joe, and Joe was later replaced by Curly-Joe. Larry retired in 1970 after having a stroke. Moe was going to try and carry on, but after smoking his whole life, he got lung cancer, and just couldn’t do it. So after he died, none of the originals were left, and it was time to hang it up.

See, I was wrong. There were two Curlys. The act originally featured Moe Howard, brother Shemp Howard and longtime friend Larry Fine.

Shemp was later replaced by brother Curly Howard. When Curly suffered a debilitating stroke in 1946, Shemp rejoined the act.

After Shemp’s death in 1955, he was replaced by bald-headed comedian Joe Besser, after the use of stuntman Joe Palma to record several “Shemp” shorts after his death.

Eventually Joe “Curly-Joe” or “Curly” DeRita (born Joseph Wardell) would replace Joe Besser.

Ah yes, WC Fields. I remember the author Ray Bradbury telling this story. As a little kid he idolized WC Fields, so he went to the studio and waited until Fields arrived. He said that he was so pleased that Fields actually spoke to him. When asked what did Fields say to you, Ray Bradbury replied, that Fields had said “Get out of my way you little son of a bitch.”

Clifton Webb, what was the movie he was in with Myrna Loy, the family that had all those kids? It was a true story, one of my favorites, but the name of it escapes me!

And some of the GREATEST movies of all time, all the Thin Mans, William Powell and Myrna Loy. And people think todays movies are the best, YEAH some are, but you can’t hold a candle to the old classics and the great actors! Bette Davis, Cary Grant, Maureen O’Hara, John Wayne, Lucillle Ball, Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Spencer Tracy and Kate Hepburn, and on and on!

And Bill Holden, Stalag 17, Bridge on the River Kwai, Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster in 7 Days in May, Burt Lancaster in The Rainmaker, man!

Shika- Good night. We don’t have TV either in the normal sense. We have a TV to watch netflix videos and it took us 4 days to watch all of this one, between company & the desire to be outdoors.

Mua kept looking at me and meowing at me while I was laughing. He thinks I’m talking to him or something. He rolls over and looks so cute when I laugh.

Shika - How is life in the great province of Ontario? The last time I drove through your province it took me five days. I, though am not a pile on the miles guy. I drive until I see a reason to stop, then do.

I guess you saw no reason to stop in Ontario then. Although I know you have.

I like Ontario. It has lots to see if you like to travel Northwards.

cleo Tomorrow I hope to get more writing done. Sunday, I’m visiting a church that may be a placement for me in the fall, then back for a nap or a long walk- depending on how I feel. Since I’m off work- weekends aren’t a big deal for me.

I stayed in Haileyberry last fall. Fascinating history. A fire distroyed the town and nearby Colbalt years ago. One man suffocated in a well. He didn’t burn- just suffocated when the fire went over him. Most town folks saved themselves in October- think of how cold it was- by jumping in the Lake. There is a memorial statue of a woman handing her baby to a rescuer after the fire- true story!

Tomorrow, my wife’s family is out for the day. Swimming and games and BBQ. We have several celebrities on the lake and they have always had a duel of fireworks. Our closest participant just told me that he wasn’t going to take part this year. We will still have others, but they are less visible. Bummer.

That’s too bad. I guess it takes time and effort to do a good job of those fireworks. I can remember as a kids watching them on our beach on Geogian Bay. Dad had some, and our neighbours too. In the early days, there weren’t many around to watch, but later, there were big displays on Christian Island.
