Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Good morning and Happy Thursday. Welcome to all the new people. carmy sorry about my cougar carmy comment yesterday. I usually think of cougars as cool cats - I know better now.
I’m not sure de-clawing would have the required effect, but it’s a start.
Morning, all! Running late so will simply wish everyone P&L, make a quick deposit in the tribal bank, and hope no one needs to make a withdrawal so that it can just draw interest. See everyone around toonville!
Doc I love almost everything you stocked in the freezer. Now, who’s going to bake the lasagna and anything else we want hot? I’ll make some garlic cheese bread to go with the lasagna for lunch. (That reminds me - gotta go put Stoffer’s lasagna on my RL shopping list!)
Dawn - I’m glad you didn’t get any tornadoes! Wichita got BASEBALL sized hail near downtown. We didn’t get hardly any hail here, maybe a few pea-sized, if any. However, the storm didn’t move through very fast, so the weather alarm kept going off during the night, because they had to keep extending the severe thunderstorm warning for my county. (YAWN!)
Good morning everyone. I FINALLY got finished reading yesterdays comments. I go away for a few hours and everyone talks up a storm. Oh well.
Cleo I just read about the loss of your dog. I’m really sorry. It is not easy dealing with a loss like that. I know everyone has said it before but we are all with you. (((((Cleo)))))
Doc may I raid the freezer? I love toaster waffles with honey. And ice cream as well.
Welcome to all the new faces.
Hi ya’ll. It is nice to see so many happy faces on the couch. Doct, please stay away from big metal box with burners on top, Wildcheetah is welcome there though. Don’t know if anyone has said it but we consumers really appreciate the “night stockers” when we see full shelves and freezers and produce when we come in to the store. Couldn’t do with out you guys … hip hip hurray!
Cleo - sorry about your friends passing. We have lost a few over the years and still have good memories. I believe that the powers-that-B provide for us. We have 4 dogs and a kitten that were “left” in a dog park/greenbelt. Not all at once but over the last 4 years. They are all different and wonderful freinds. I feel for your loss but believe the future will hold good things for you and yours.
Dry- I will consider what you said about pistacios. I was able to eat almonds, once, around 1983 and then had reaction so quit them, better to just say “NO”. My wife won’t let me taste the samples in our grocery store anymore after going to hospital twice - Mango salsa with pecans - who’d of thunk?
Guess you know that today is Courtney’s birthday, wonder if Rob is secretly in Love with C.
Time to go to sleep for awhile. I hate falling asleep in front of the compter and that is what i’m doing. I’ll try to pop in later if I wake up in time.
Goodquestion, I ran into a similar problem once, in a restaurant. I ordered a slice of cream cheese pie with a graham cracker crust. Took one bite, too late! Asked the waitress what was in the crust, though I already knew, she asked the cook and came back “Walnuts”. In a graham cracker crust? Like you said, who’d of thunk?
We had some tornadoes last night nearby, it seems. In particular, it sounds like the south side of Dickinson was hit, but as far as I can tell, no deaths, praise be! Got plenty of rain and lightning, even a bit of hail, and power out for over an hour. Exciting, but we got through ok.
(All so tentative, as the paper is delayed, and besides I’m not sure anyone really knows what all happened just yet.)
Dry, serena & Goodquestion - Thank you all. I am doing pretty good today, even with thoughts of Cleo in mind. They are good thoughts, like looking at the spot on a knoll where she used to like to see what was going on on the street below, hoping the UPS driver would stop so she could get a treat.
JFri - Was going off on you and BT on “For Better Or Worse.”
bmonk - When I looked at the weather map of watches & warnings last evening, I was wondering about you. I’m so glad there weren’t any deaths! Does your paper have an on-line version? Most newspapers have at least the major stories available on-line. I’m sure you’re right about discovering more of the property damage now that there is daylight. I’m wondering if we’ll have to replace the roof on my mom’s house again. Just did that last year, due to a hail storm.
I made a comment at Stone Soup. Couldn’t resist! And JFri is wearing off on me, I’m taking my cul de sac comment to SOTU with a slight modifcation! Hey, I’ve got some extra food here, might as well feed the trolls!!
Yeah, I tried the on-line, but you have to register and all that folderol, and it doesn’t look like they have that much info anyway at this point. So I just didn’t bother.
bmonk - I don’t usually bother to read the ones on-line that you have to register to read, although I did make an exception for the major newspaper in my area, so I can read the daily obits. (That’s what happens when you’re pushing 50.) I started reading that paper’s website before they started requiring the registration. It hasn’t been too bad - I signed up for the afternoon headlines to be emailed to me, but other than that, they aren’t contacting me.
The TV stations websites usually only make you register if you want to comment, so I read those as well.
cleo, I’m guessing you meant that gmartin was going off on me at FBOW?? I left another nugget for him there after your post. You think it’s over the top? If anyone thinks so, I will delete it!
Actually, I have one brother who disproves “survival of the fittest”, because it is a miracle he has lived this long (he’s 60) considering all the stupid things he’s done.
Dry - You’re right. I wonder what happened in RL to upset him? Of course, if he’s having untreated clinical depression, it could explain a lot. (I’ve been around family members in that condition, and they got ticked off over the least little thing.)
Hi back to Dry and hi Carmy hi back to rmom hi to doc hi to jfri
and bye to all….
im going to town just wanted to stop by and say hi and bye. ill be back in a few hours. i have ana today and the boys tomorrow…. will see you all sometime later. peace and love all no parties while im gone i have to much to catch up on wehn you do that. lol
My kid wants me to bring home BK for lunch! He knows what he wants, but I never have time to read the menu, before they start, “Take your time, order when you’re ready”. In other words,” hurry the h e l l up woman!!! We ain’t got all day!!” LOL
When I first joined the comics that is what I wanted. I didn’t know putting your first name would be what showed up. Usually sites have your name AND a username.
Anyway “lonewolf” or “lonewolfseven” is what most people on the internet know me by.
I distinguish between comments and actual behavior. Some of us live rich fantasy lives, but actually are civilized enough not to act them out. I’d like to think doc is one of those.
carmy - Having gone through childbirth a couple of times, I think they just estimated the exact minute & seconds. I know with my kids, they just looked at the clock after they got him out, and made sure he could breathe. Not like a newborn has a time clock to punch. But seeing as what the date & approximate time would have to have been, I can’t say as I blame them for recording it for that exact second.
Alright bmonk, doc is not civilized! He told you to ask me, so there you have it!
(Looking skyward to make sure no lightning bolts are coming down for telling such a big lie!! )
Rmom, I’ve had 4 deliveries and 3 of them in military hospitals. The military is very precise with the birth time.
I do find it a bit hard to believe that the OK hospital got it down to the seconds though.
Lonewolf Glad you are sleeping well - it means you are healing.
Howdy to the new posters and those who have been away and to the rest of the Tribe.
I am also going to be a hit and run today although I will try to get back to a computer later. It’s difficult when you are supposed to be visiting with your hosts and only want to be online. Not much of a guest. But I can leave any time.
Breakfast was great. Wasn’t hungry for lunch and it may be a while before I’m ready for supper. Got to tour a new drill rig they just finished making so it was an interesting morning.
All the comments about stuffed peppers has me thinking though….Mmmmm stuffed Jalepenos, maybe I will have to make some supper after all….
Just popped in to say hi to anyone here. I had to get up to take the dog out so I will wander around toonland until I get sleepy again.
No food today????????????
JFri I agree. someone had a big waterfight in my neighbourhood also. It has finally been raining here for the last few days, but it has almost been too late to do much good for the farmers around .
Like you Dawn, I am not addicted to this place. I can quit coming here anytime I want to. I can. Really. I just don’t want to. LOL..
No Terry, that was last week. Had to go back Monday, sigh! I love my job, but I love summer too, and it’s tough being stuck inside when the summer sun beckons!! And I always manage to somehow take the week before the end of a quarter off without thinking, so that when I get back, there’s tons of end of qtr. reports, reimbursements, unopened mail, etc.! sitting here!
Lonewolf that was last week that dry was off.
dry you knwo that doc and Jfri will make a comment about you working.
i do come in at the wrong times, that or when yuo are all haveing a disscusion i can slip in and no one notice me at all. maybe im to quite i should come in with a bang or something… i do like to make an intrence. (sp) spell check went bye bye again.. stupid brother
im either getting weaker or a 24 case of water is getting heaver. idk but that was a long walk from next door to here. and trying to be quite bc Ana is sleeping wasnt any easer. oh and i got a 7 year old now also.
Hi all,
Making a “hit and run” post as it were. I feel that there is an explanation to the Terry/Lonewolf name, but missed it.
Rina, in fairness, State of the Union goes through nasty and nicer phases, with a few exceptions, it seems to be in a nicer phase, so I must discourage the troll baiting for now, as it is not going over well.
bbl.
Terry, yes I added my two cents worth today as well! At Cul de Sac and then with a minor adjustment at SOTU. Figured if Jfri was going to stir up trouble, I might as well help him out!! LOL Oh yes and Overboard was a hoot today, you should check it out!
johnny, are you chastising us? You sure you wanna do that, you know, in case we have another water battle? LOL!!! Don’t forget, my aim is pretty good with that hose!
okay i just got my friend out of my ditch… scary stuff. she cant drive. now im full of mud, grass, and choclate. (ana out the food on me) and need to get ana and myself cleaned up. so i will be back some time later. just about the time Akenta gets on once again i get off. i sware im not avoiding you girl i just have bad timing as Dry said. bleeep my luck
I prefer rebuke, although I don’t know of any difference in meaning. The past couple of days, GJ Jehosaphat (spelling), Jor El, and BirishB have been having very intelligent, civil debates, that have driven most of the nasties to the side. Remembering your aim, perhaps I will go with the term “gentle reminder.” LOL
Hi everyone. Yep, I get on and tabby has left. Rina I don’t think gmartin is that bad - he just likes to post on this comic (and some others) to make fun of us. I think if he would join in more, we would all probably like him.
Akenta, you didn’t see some of his posts today, very nasty, almost like he went over the edge. Apparently, gocomics removed some of them! They were pretty bad! I used to feel as you until today’s posts. Sad really.
Dry lol my friend can drive she has a lincens and all of that good stuff. but she cant drive… do you get what im saying? she dirves crazy half the time she uses her knees. she was just coming to say hi we hadn’t see eachother in a while and she was leaving when she did this. my dad and bro are at work and im babysitting. so they couldnt help i had the kids out side playing on the swing and with the dogs. dad dosent know she was here. will when he sees the yard. lol
akenta im here for a few. im about to go get ana some clothes shes running around in a pull up thank God she is little… Oh God Cleokaya is rubbing off on my baby girl. lol
I’m starting to see some more of gmartin’s comments - I didn’t finish my rounds this morning. So far he still seems more harmless than a few others. BTW, docT it seems you’ve made an enemy with striper77 (I think I’m only on his bad side)
JFri I had a good time reading your replys. Awesome, man, awesome!!!
Akenta They took the gmartin’s bad comment off, the rest didn’t appear as bad without the one. I also thought he was getting pretty cool with us only a few days ago, but I also am too too forgiving at times.
Lonewolf are you makeing sweet with my Dry? did you do something some wheres taht i missed and are sucking up for it? lol you wouldnt do that i know just messing.
Dry, WHAT was dumb?? You been hitting the rum again? Don’t make me invoke the pirate!! I KNOW where his allegiance lies (I supply him with rum when he runs out…which is frequently!!!)
Lonewolf - Thanks for your comments about Cleo. I walked into the closet this morning and thought that I saw her in there. Oh well, the sadness is tapering off and that is good.
Spent the day spraying Round Up and putting together the recycling and trash.
I suppose I don’t care if you guys post provocative comments. What is wrong with me?! Of course I don’t care! You are my friends, I should be watching out for you not them. I just always try to spread the peace.
BTW JFri, I understand and sympathize with your posts at SOTU.
cleo that’s good to hear, I saw her being attacked this morning on one of the comics. I don’t think I posted on that one. A lot of the times, I will start to write out a comment and then just close the window instead of posting.
ladywolf seems to rile a number of posters because she makes personal comments, but she seems sweet to me and she likes her dad. So, It is odd that she gets so many snide comments directed at her.
I think that’s just because of her start to this site. Made a lot of people wonder about her (I still do). Some of the comments she makes I wouldn’t think I would want my dad to see and same with some of the comments her dad makes. But that’s just me.
On the subject of ladywolf, I agree with the recent comments here so far. I don’t think it’s just the personal nature, but also the thick drama associated with the comments. And there seems to be a pattern on when her/the father shows up or doesn’t. None of us really know and I try to move away from those comic strips before I open my typing mouth!
Dry - Thanks for the hug. I always like it when I get hugs from attractive ladies.
Regarding ladywolf, we get a wide range of people who read the funnies and I suspect some of them have other reasons for being on this site. It’s hard to know someone well, when you see a person post every once and awhile and it is also hard to figure out why some posters always seem angry.
Dry why do i always agree with you? maybe your just so smart… or maybe im smart bc i agree with you… who knows. but i get what your saying we have been here for a while togter threw hard times and good times and said times. we are a family here. as for ladywolf and the other guy im not sure about she seems sweet but i wonder about her you know…
well i have 3 kids in a room fighting and a hocky stick in my lap wonder what kind of damage i could do??? hum maybe i should be careful people may take me seriously… who would do that. bbs
I still every once a while have dreams about my deceased pets especially my 2 bestest dogs, Teddy and Gallagher who were raised together.. The dreams are so real and for a little while they are with me, and it is great!
I just looked at how many posts there are, and decided to eat first and tidy up before coming back- I don’t think I can keep up with you guys!
Thanks for the Lasagne Doc! I may have that, using the Tribal little white box. Did you forget that we have a fully stocked kitchen at Big Top? Oh poor hymenoxis- he’ll have a heart attack if he finds out. I’d better lock it up again.
Drystyha: Yes, ladywolf and her dad, if he is her dad, that’s a strange situation. Some of their comments are perfectly normal and fine and then sometimes they go off on some stuff, I know I wouldn’t post, TMI, you know!
We post some personal things here , but look how long some of us have been together, we’re here for each other to celebrate, mourn, have fun, etc..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I agree with you, Dry. She seems sweet, but something just doesn’t ring true. The comments between her and her ‘dad’ that floored me were the ones about her finding a Japanese sword in a long box and her telling her ‘dad’ that she was ready for her punishment for finding the sword. Why must she post things of such a private nature on the comics board instead of just talking to her ‘dad’ face to face? Akenta, could they be involved in some kind of a role playing game?
Lately, ‘dad’ is telling everyone that he is giving up drinking…
way too much drama going on here.
Dry and Marg, I agree with what you all are saying about the wolves. If anything, their TMI comments certainly cause them to get “attacked.” Who would want that?
I’ll be back later. My Husky has found a snake out in the back yard. My son is freakin out. By the way Doc my husky’s name is Doc! Short for “Doc Holiday”. BBL
Marge That was the exact “episode” that floored me. The other recent one was about the “evil” angry eyes. He sounds like a demon in that one. To me nothing to do with the strip at all, just out of the blue. Weird at best.
We lost our dog when she was sixteen. That was seventeen years ago and I feel as though it was just last year. She was an outdoor do - didn’t like it in the house since she was a standard poodle malamute cross, but we took her for three or four long walks every day and the kids played with her outside every chance they could. I still miss her and have not wanted to get another dog. Perhaps when I am no longer able to travel I will, but until then I will content myself with spoiling our feral cat and relatives dogs.
You never know, and I don’t want to judge. Besides, who cares if she/they are frauds, it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. At least not to me.
Carmy I’m a “Home Improvement” junkie. If I have a machette, it is probably motorized. Who else shows up at a water fight with a M1A1 Abrahms tank outfitted to fire water out of the barrels?
I wonder if perhaps LW is just very young for her age and that her dad is a little naive as well. Not all are like our Tabby and JDoc.There are also many who just do not know what is or what is not appropriate (as we have seen in abundance on several of the sites today.) What I do know, though, is that we have a wonderful group of very caring people here.
A message to hymenoxis….be proud of who you have become regardless of the trail you took to get there…I am sure I speak for we all here.”we love having you ….25 or 6 to 4”
Terry, when I was living in Chicago, I went on a “goodie” run to the store down the street from the office I worked at. I was standing in an aisle with a pack of Oreos in my hand and I was looking for something on the shelf. These 2 scumbags walked up to me and starting making some suggestive remarks. I crushed the Oreos in my hand and told them things that I can’t repeat here. They freaked out and said, “holy cow lady, relax! We’re just messing with you.” They left me alone and I got a new pack of Oreos and went back to the office.
Well,* johnny* is right, (even though he packs a mean water gun) , in the grand scheme of things, who cares! We have our beautiful people here, covering each others backs and looking out for each other! I guess age brings wisdom, sooner to some than others!
“Age may wrinkle the face, but lack of enthusiasm wrinkles the soul!” Or something like that! Just thought I’d throw that in there, feeling philasophical (sp) (where’s Ash to correct my spelling! LOL) tonight! Or maudlin, don’t know which it is!
Lonewolf & Dry - I agree with both of you. I like to think that when I think that I see Cleo, I actually am, that her spirit still walks these grounds. And I dream of Kaya, as well as my parents, and I am a vivid dreamer. It is just as real as my waking moments. I feel that in these dreams I am visiting with who I am dreaming about and life continues on in a different form.
Akenta, tabby & carmy** - More hugs from my beautiful female friends. Thank you, thank you. And Johnnyd, thank you too.
Thanks Marg and Tabby. I don’t really remember exactly what I said, but it was very bad. I had a good laugh with my co-workers when I got back to the office.
Carmy, I like that Oreo story too. I have been in that situation too, probably different inflammatory comments, though. Stupid kids, people, whatever, think that they are funny, until someone tells them off, and then all of the sudden they are the victims of a grouchy person. I find their ignorance irritating. Thank you all for the kind words regarding my wisdom, but I need to start putting some of my philosophies into real life practice better.
Tabby, good luck with Ana. Patience.
CLEO I am so sorry that I didn’t know before now about little Cleo! I’ve just been so busy, it escaped me entirely until I saw all the condolences and hugs. And then I had to go into Dog Eats Doug to see your post because I haven’t even read most my collection.
Just a little hug, so as not to embarrass you or make you uncomfortable.
(((cleokaya)))
Please give your wife a hug for me. If you haven’t said too much already, may I ask what happened? Heart?
Just dropped in for my last time today as I have to get ready for work.
Cleo and others it’s good to know that I’m not the only one and I’m not going crazy [as opposed to nutty]. My cats have both been gone for nearly a year but sometimes it seems I can still feel them on my bed getting ready to nap on me. (((((((((((((All Yappy Nuts))))))))))))))))
I’m glad I found this place. Little can lift spirits like a few good laughs with friends.
Ok I’ll leave quietly before I get too sappy or someone calls for the butterfly nets. I’ll see you all again tomorrow.
I try to avoid the TMIs but fear I may be guilty of them too at times.
Here is the proper amount of info, though: It is not the weekend yet, and I have to get up early tomorrow, so I will call it a night. Peace and love all. and Good night all!
There’s just too much going on for me to make sense of anything. Not that that’s news to any of you.
Terry-Lonewolf- So you took the plunge! Great. Eventually you can drop Terry, if you want, and we’ll still know who you are. Although I tend to think of you as Terry right now.
Doc, in that case no!! You weren’t mean enough, but then you probably would’ve been booted off! That pissed me off, my friend!!! Cheap shot on his part!! I should have said soemthing but since it was july 2 I figured no one would see it!
Hot off the presses- Brett Favre put a deposit down on a condo in the Twin Cities! I love him to death, but I hope he knows what the he’s doing! That Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy and Mark Murphy! Jack asses!
RRAmom - The Love Is strip is indeed my life. Save me please. LOL
Shika - Thank you. I don’t exactly know what happened. We weren’t here when she died. Our tenant and our neighbor who was actually a second home for Cleo were here. It sounds like the symptoms were much like they were a couple of weeks ago when she was acting odd. It could have been a stroke or her heart (but i doubt it), or she could have eaten something that was poisonous. It is odd because she went for a long swim with my wife a couple of days before she died and was fine, which makes me think it wasn’t her heart. I am going to think it was a stroke and hope she wasn’t poisoned by something she ate. She lived for food, so she was a scrounger. I am just happy that she lived her life fully and died quickly with no loss of her enjoyable life until she passed.
Thanks for sharing cleo. That wasn’t easy, I’m sure. Think the best, like you say. she had a happy life full of love and dies quickly. Your wife must be heartbroken too. How wonderful they had that long swim together.
Terry That was me who says I think of you as Terry. But I know I can get used to anything. Lonewolf is a great name. I love wolves too. I’ve read Farley Mowat’s book on wolves, and R. D. Lawrence’s books and others too.
carmy-Thank you my dear. My wife took it really hard for the first ten minutes and got it out of her system. My wife is not anywhere near as emotional as I am, so I have never seen her so distraught. But after the initial collapse, she is back to her usual self. She still feels sad, but does not show it. I on the other hand am an open book. And, even though I am a man, do not feel embarrassed to cry.
Dry - Yes, virtual hugs make one feel good. Thank you.
doctortoon - How dare you go on vacation without us. We all want to go camping too. We won’t get in the way. We promise we won’t interfere with romance. We promise to put our tents at least two feet away from yours. I’ll bring smores.
cleo, my thoughts and prayers are with you both.
We were just talking about crying here on BT, yesterday I think. Anyway, it’s okay to cry, it’s a release that we need sometimes.
carmy - Thank you. I cry easily. Both my mom & dad did too. A sad movie sets me off. I grew up with my mom being my main influence. My dad travelled a lot. Consequently, I think I got a lot more from her and learned her skills. I am hopeless with anything mechanical. I am useless with a hammer. I can’t fix anything without several tries. But, I am a good cook and baker. I am artistic. I am more comfortable talking about topics women are interested in. If a party was to divide into men in one room and women in another, I would be with the women. I never forget an anniversary. I always can pick out the perfect gift for my wife. I buy her flowers all of the time. I think I am like a heterosexual man with the same themes of focus that attract women to gay men as friends.
cleo, I cry easy too! I cry at the news sometimes, I can see a sad movie a hundred times, know how it ends and still bawl my eyes out! Same way with a comedy! I still laugh at the punch line, and the I Love Lucy with Bill Holden when they go to the Brown Derby and then Ricky brings him home to meet Lucy, anyone who saw that show knows what I’m talking about! I’ve seen it a hundred million times and I still laugh til the tears come and my sides ache, and I know it by heart! Same way with the movie “it’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”!
There you go cleo. We have been invited! Pack the gear and some food, carmy, bring one machete in case we run into a rattlesanke or two!! And I’ll bring my horns so we have some music!!
Dry - The movie that had me in tears more than any other that I can think of off hand, was “My Dog Skip”. It is about a boy and his dog during the second world war. It was a very emotional movie and at the end it was awkward walking out of the theatre with my nose running and my eyes red and runny. The one cute moment was this, I was sitting behind a man who was either a grandpa or great grandpa with a young boy who was probably six or so. The man looked to be in his 70s. They both were sobbing and walked out at the end of the movie with the older man comforting the boy.
G -R-R-R-E-A-T!!! I’ll be packed in a couple of hours. I just sold my motor home so this will be my first tent camping experience in years, but I have a nice tent that is essentially like brand new. I can build a campfire like a pro.
Oh I have a vision in my head from the remake of the Parent Trap, they go camping and this prissy fianace of the dad gets conned by the girls, and she’s running around the camp banging these sticks together to chase the bears away!!
My husband and I both cried when we saw “Empire of the Sun” forever ago. When I saw E.T. in the theater when it first came out, everybody in the whole place cried when we thought E.T. had died.
We’ll keep our eyes open while you’re gone! Nobody touches one of us without the fear of retribution! Leave me a warclub! I’ll take care of the trollers! Me and JFri! And carmy with her machete!
Goodnight Doc! Goodnight Dry!
Cleo, I might be back for the “turnover” so I may see you later, if not, Goodnight to you too.
Goodnight Shika! Sorry, I was away from the computer and I missed your goodnight.
Morning all. Time to make my rounds. BBL
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
Dawn - I’m glad you didn’t get any tornadoes! Wichita got BASEBALL sized hail near downtown. We didn’t get hardly any hail here, maybe a few pea-sized, if any. However, the storm didn’t move through very fast, so the weather alarm kept going off during the night, because they had to keep extending the severe thunderstorm warning for my county. (YAWN!)
Good morning everyone. I FINALLY got finished reading yesterdays comments. I go away for a few hours and everyone talks up a storm. Oh well. Cleo I just read about the loss of your dog. I’m really sorry. It is not easy dealing with a loss like that. I know everyone has said it before but we are all with you. (((((Cleo))))) Doc may I raid the freezer? I love toaster waffles with honey. And ice cream as well. Welcome to all the new faces.
Hi ya’ll. It is nice to see so many happy faces on the couch. Doct, please stay away from big metal box with burners on top, Wildcheetah is welcome there though. Don’t know if anyone has said it but we consumers really appreciate the “night stockers” when we see full shelves and freezers and produce when we come in to the store. Couldn’t do with out you guys … hip hip hurray!
Cleo - sorry about your friends passing. We have lost a few over the years and still have good memories. I believe that the powers-that-B provide for us. We have 4 dogs and a kitten that were “left” in a dog park/greenbelt. Not all at once but over the last 4 years. They are all different and wonderful freinds. I feel for your loss but believe the future will hold good things for you and yours.
Dry- I will consider what you said about pistacios. I was able to eat almonds, once, around 1983 and then had reaction so quit them, better to just say “NO”. My wife won’t let me taste the samples in our grocery store anymore after going to hospital twice - Mango salsa with pecans - who’d of thunk?
Guess you know that today is Courtney’s birthday, wonder if Rob is secretly in Love with C.
Goodquestion, I ran into a similar problem once, in a restaurant. I ordered a slice of cream cheese pie with a graham cracker crust. Took one bite, too late! Asked the waitress what was in the crust, though I already knew, she asked the cook and came back “Walnuts”. In a graham cracker crust? Like you said, who’d of thunk?
Good Morning, All!
We had some tornadoes last night nearby, it seems. In particular, it sounds like the south side of Dickinson was hit, but as far as I can tell, no deaths, praise be! Got plenty of rain and lightning, even a bit of hail, and power out for over an hour. Exciting, but we got through ok.
(All so tentative, as the paper is delayed, and besides I’m not sure anyone really knows what all happened just yet.)
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Dry, serena & Goodquestion - Thank you all. I am doing pretty good today, even with thoughts of Cleo in mind. They are good thoughts, like looking at the spot on a knoll where she used to like to see what was going on on the street below, hoping the UPS driver would stop so she could get a treat.
JFri - Was going off on you and BT on “For Better Or Worse.”
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
bmonk - When I looked at the weather map of watches & warnings last evening, I was wondering about you. I’m so glad there weren’t any deaths! Does your paper have an on-line version? Most newspapers have at least the major stories available on-line. I’m sure you’re right about discovering more of the property damage now that there is daylight. I’m wondering if we’ll have to replace the roof on my mom’s house again. Just did that last year, due to a hail storm.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
I made a comment at Stone Soup. Couldn’t resist! And JFri is wearing off on me, I’m taking my cul de sac comment to SOTU with a slight modifcation! Hey, I’ve got some extra food here, might as well feed the trolls!!
bmonk over 15 years ago
Yeah, I tried the on-line, but you have to register and all that folderol, and it doesn’t look like they have that much info anyway at this point. So I just didn’t bother.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
bmonk - I don’t usually bother to read the ones on-line that you have to register to read, although I did make an exception for the major newspaper in my area, so I can read the daily obits. (That’s what happens when you’re pushing 50.) I started reading that paper’s website before they started requiring the registration. It hasn’t been too bad - I signed up for the afternoon headlines to be emailed to me, but other than that, they aren’t contacting me. The TV stations websites usually only make you register if you want to comment, so I read those as well.
bmonk over 15 years ago
We already get the print version, so I don’t really feel a need to read on-line…
Gotta go!
Carmy That birth is eerie and cool at the same time.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
carmy - Having gone through childbirth a couple of times, I think they just estimated the exact minute & seconds. I know with my kids, they just looked at the clock after they got him out, and made sure he could breathe. Not like a newborn has a time clock to punch. But seeing as what the date & approximate time would have to have been, I can’t say as I blame them for recording it for that exact second.
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Carmy that would be very cool!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
Alright bmonk, doc is not civilized! He told you to ask me, so there you have it! (Looking skyward to make sure no lightning bolts are coming down for telling such a big lie!! )
carmy over 15 years ago
Rmom, I’ve had 4 deliveries and 3 of them in military hospitals. The military is very precise with the birth time. I do find it a bit hard to believe that the OK hospital got it down to the seconds though.
On the subject of ladywolf, I agree with the recent comments here so far. I don’t think it’s just the personal nature, but also the thick drama associated with the comments. And there seems to be a pattern on when her/the father shows up or doesn’t. None of us really know and I try to move away from those comic strips before I open my typing mouth!
Regarding ladywolf, we get a wide range of people who read the funnies and I suspect some of them have other reasons for being on this site. It’s hard to know someone well, when you see a person post every once and awhile and it is also hard to figure out why some posters always seem angry.
Hi there!
I just looked at how many posts there are, and decided to eat first and tidy up before coming back- I don’t think I can keep up with you guys!
Thanks for the Lasagne Doc! I may have that, using the Tribal little white box. Did you forget that we have a fully stocked kitchen at Big Top? Oh poor hymenoxis- he’ll have a heart attack if he finds out. I’d better lock it up again.
Drystyha: Yes, ladywolf and her dad, if he is her dad, that’s a strange situation. Some of their comments are perfectly normal and fine and then sometimes they go off on some stuff, I know I wouldn’t post, TMI, you know! We post some personal things here , but look how long some of us have been together, we’re here for each other to celebrate, mourn, have fun, etc.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I agree with you, Dry. She seems sweet, but something just doesn’t ring true. The comments between her and her ‘dad’ that floored me were the ones about her finding a Japanese sword in a long box and her telling her ‘dad’ that she was ready for her punishment for finding the sword. Why must she post things of such a private nature on the comics board instead of just talking to her ‘dad’ face to face? Akenta, could they be involved in some kind of a role playing game? Lately, ‘dad’ is telling everyone that he is giving up drinking… way too much drama going on here.
Dry and Marg, I agree with what you all are saying about the wolves. If anything, their TMI comments certainly cause them to get “attacked.” Who would want that?
Hey Shika
Hey Marge
Marge That was the exact “episode” that floored me. The other recent one was about the “evil” angry eyes. He sounds like a demon in that one. To me nothing to do with the strip at all, just out of the blue. Weird at best.
We lost our dog when she was sixteen. That was seventeen years ago and I feel as though it was just last year. She was an outdoor do - didn’t like it in the house since she was a standard poodle malamute cross, but we took her for three or four long walks every day and the kids played with her outside every chance they could. I still miss her and have not wanted to get another dog. Perhaps when I am no longer able to travel I will, but until then I will content myself with spoiling our feral cat and relatives dogs.
Terry, when I was living in Chicago, I went on a “goodie” run to the store down the street from the office I worked at. I was standing in an aisle with a pack of Oreos in my hand and I was looking for something on the shelf. These 2 scumbags walked up to me and starting making some suggestive remarks. I crushed the Oreos in my hand and told them things that I can’t repeat here. They freaked out and said, “holy cow lady, relax! We’re just messing with you.” They left me alone and I got a new pack of Oreos and went back to the office.
RRAmom - The Love Is strip is indeed my life. Save me please. LOL
Shika - Thank you. I don’t exactly know what happened. We weren’t here when she died. Our tenant and our neighbor who was actually a second home for Cleo were here. It sounds like the symptoms were much like they were a couple of weeks ago when she was acting odd. It could have been a stroke or her heart (but i doubt it), or she could have eaten something that was poisonous. It is odd because she went for a long swim with my wife a couple of days before she died and was fine, which makes me think it wasn’t her heart. I am going to think it was a stroke and hope she wasn’t poisoned by something she ate. She lived for food, so she was a scrounger. I am just happy that she lived her life fully and died quickly with no loss of her enjoyable life until she passed.
But, I am a good cook and baker. I am artistic. I am more comfortable talking about topics women are interested in. If a party was to divide into men in one room and women in another, I would be with the women. I never forget an anniversary. I always can pick out the perfect gift for my wife. Dry - The movie that had me in tears more than any other that I can think of off hand, was “My Dog Skip”. It is about a boy and his dog during the second world war. It was a very emotional movie and at the end it was awkward walking out of the theatre with my nose running and my eyes red and runny. The one cute moment was this, I was sitting behind a man who was either a grandpa or great grandpa with a young boy who was probably six or so. The man looked to be in his 70s. They both were sobbing and walked out at the end of the movie with the older man comforting the boy.
