yyyguy, that isn’t a bad thing, but if you enjoy snow as Doc does, then maybe it isn’t. The only “significant” snow I saw (it didn’t stay) came the night of Thanksgiving, and I had to drive my Aunt home through all the twisting and turning country rounds, worrying about drunks and deer. Then the snow came, and a minivan wasn’t my first choice to be flying down those roads in.

Good morning, Tribe, especially Terry, jdoc, yguy, & DocT!

We got the cold now, but the snow is to the north of us–in and near Canada.

Reminds me of the old geezer who always had a farm on the border in Canada, but when they resurveyed the area, they discovered he was actually in the US. They asked him what he thought about the error, and he replied, “I’m really glad. I don’t think I coulda lasted another one of those dern Canadian winters…”

Good morning, tribe! Cleo - I hope the snow stops with Colorado & Doc! There is supposed to be a cold front moving in tonight, with the possibility of snow. But since the high for Wednesday is forecasted in the 40’s, I would say no significant accumulation is expected. Dry & Terry - Thanks for the stroll through memory lane! It has been years since I’ve seen an animated Peanuts cartoon, and Snoopy is my favorite Peanuts character - especially when he’s flying the Soupwith (sp?) Camel. I’ve got to make my rounds now, see you all later.

Good Morning to TheRedHatt, yyyguy, bmonk, Dry, serena and Rmom.

I do not have any particular desire to run with a group of fools into freezing water. However I am more than happy to do a hot tub. Over Thanksgiving my wife and I had to inform her daughter, who invited friends over, that they would not be permitted to enter the hot tub with bathing suits on. When we were in Virginia she and her friends went for a swim in the lake then jumped into the tub. The filter became clogged with sediment and whatever from the swimsuits holding all that lake water. I had cleaned the tub just before we left, which normally lasts for four months, but had to drain and clean it again. Kind of funny telling your daughter to take clothes off instead of putting more on. LOL

yyyguy, I could and have taken a sauna, run through the snow and jumped into a hot tub. But, like you, I do not need to rub my self with snow. When you think of it though, it wouldn’t be as bad after a sauna because your body is storing extra heat. I have gotten out of the hot tub into very cold conditions and been fine. But once I cool off, entering the same cold conditions is much less tolerable.

Rmom hot tub companies discourage bathing suits as they contain detergents and other elements that throw off the chemistry. So tell your hubby that nudity is how a hot tub is meant to be enjoyed. LOL

    Good afternoon Tribe ((((((((TRIBE)))))))

Just getting started. Got up about 10am and was out on the road for my errands before 11am. I am finally approved and have a phenotype match for the anti-D (Rh- factor) program at the plasma center. Looks like I get injected tomorrow. Meantime I tried to do plasma today. The line clotted…..TWICE!!!! I have had problems since that guy went through my vein about a month ago. If I see him I’m gonna kill him. His ineptness is costing me $$$$ And yes, he was inept. I haven’t seen him around since…mebbe he sliced one too many and got canned.

calming down Anyway, I didn’t get back until almost 3pm. The only task I had for myself today was to get the stove and start on my desk. I can knock that out w/o too much sweat.

Anyway, peace and love, Tribe. I’m off to read comics.

Quaby - Please explain a little further. I’m O negative, and both my sons & my husband (their dad) are positive blood types. I had to get something to prevent their positive blood attacking my negative blood while I was pregnant. Is that the stuff you’re talking about? Maybe I missed some of your previous posts about your health problems, but I’m confused.

If the mother is Rh negative, and the baby Rh positive, there is a good chance that the mother will develop antibodies to the Rh factor. The current baby will not be affected, but future pregnancies could be at severe risk, as these antibodies will attack any future Rh positive babies as if the mother were allergic to her child. Hence, they test for this and give the mother treatment to avoid developing the antibodies. More info here.

bmonk - I was injected with something to prevent the antibodies from developing about 1/2 way through the pregnancies & immediately after each delivery. I’ve donated blood several times since then, and amazingly, they never ask about that sort of thing before I donate. (They ask a ton of health-related questions!) I wonder if that’s because it has been standard operating procedure for a long time in the U.S.?

Sorry Tribe didn’t mean to confuse you.

Those who have been around know I am reticent about giving out any information about myself, paranoid about the web, etc, etc. I started doing the plasma thing last February after reading an ad in the paper. Being Rh- and having had an Rh+ child and knowing the risks of future children, I have one child. I wanted to help the babies. Then….as $$ became tighter and tighter I appreciated the income to help buy groceries.

Doing the plasma gig is more time consuming than donating whole blood every 56 days. They take about a cup or so of your blood, spin it down for the plasma, then reinfuse the blood cells. You keep doing this until you hit 880 ml (for someone of my weight). It takes me about 3.5 cycles to get the 880 ml. This can be done 2 times in 7 days. I take about 45 minutes because I drink lotsa liquid. Others can take an hour or more. The needle is in your vein the entire time. I often joke about having ‘numb-rear’ when I’m finally released from the apparatus (language is requested to be ‘clean’ so I don’t say numb-butt). This time does not count the waiting time to get screened and the screening. It can sometimes take up to 3 hours total. And for this I get $20 for the 1st time in the week, and $30 for the 2nd time.

Believe me, this gig does not pay good enough to count as any type of income, $200 a month if I’m cleared for every time (sometimes my heart’s too fast or my temperature a tad over the maximum). Even when I finally produce the anti-D and hit the $35 1st time/$50 2nd time the gig still does not pay enough time-wise. And I started this when the difference between plain plasma and anit-D was only $10, not the $35 extra it is now.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to ‘splain it better. Of course now my gig is up, I am a female, 50+, happily married to my currently unemployed husband and I have one son in his late 20’s.

    Okay, back to the fun!

Thanks for the info, Quaby! So, if I understand correctly (please correct me if I’ve got it wrong) the stuff they injected into me to prevent the Rh antibodies is from the plasma people like you have sold/donated? I’m sorry things are so tough economically right now, but I’m glad you are doing what you can to help both yourselves and others. I understand about being careful about what you post on-line. I do try to make sure I don’t put anything that could identify me or my location too specifically.

Rmom Yes, once I get injected and the antibodies are produced I will be making the stuff you had injected to prevent the Rh. antibodies.

When I was a teenager I read a medical mystery, Reader’s Digest version, which was a malpractice case. The doctor was being blamed for not taking proper care of the child, etc, etc and that’s why the boy was braindamaged. It came out that the girl (she was young) had had an abortion a few years earlier, and that’s why she produced the antibodies for this pregnancy. At the time the book was written there was no anti-D. Each pregnancy had to be monitored carefully and blood be ready for immediate replacement/transfusion should the child be Rh+. The descriptions of the Rh babies was chilling.

When I had my boy anti-D was just coming out. I did not get any injections, etc. Fortunately he was my first pregnancy (no abortions, miscarriages, etc) so he was ok.

There is a lady who does her thing on the same days/time I do. She has been doing it for 29 years. I do not think anyone else had been doing it as long as she has, but I bet if there is someone, they’re female, Rh- and doing the anti-D. I certainly don’t relish the thought of doing this for years and years, but the babies need it. As long as I can do it, I will.

We are weathering the recession ok as we downsized slowly and carefully over the last 3 years. So all those ‘No’s’ were really ‘Have patience, there is a better one coming’.

Quaby Angel Food Ministries, yes. Back in the day here, it was done by a local church, you paid about $30. and got a lot of stuff. I had to use it about 5 times in one year, A LONG TIME AGO, and it was a god send! I see ads in our local paper here now for “Angel Food Ministries”, I guess it’s a national program, not sure, but conducted thru local churches. Try it once, if you’re not happy don’t use it again, but when I used their predecessor, I was very happy. They didn’t give frozen items or meats back then, but fresh fruit and veggies (and they were fresh), canned goods, dry goods, etc.

Thanks, Quaby! Because of others like you, I have two healthy sons. I’ve never participated in the Angel Food Ministry, but know people who have. It is a fine ministry. Our family is just so picky (both my hubby & I are, so…) that I was afraid we’d wouldn’t eat what we received. Thankfully, there has only been a few months in our 25 years of marriage when my husband didn’t have a job, and between gifts from his parents & our savings, we were able to survive. (We’ve been a one-income family for the last 20 years.)

    so this is what……….:

    Dear Class,

We have decided to offer the possibility of up to 3% added to your final grade. Your assignment, should you decide to accept it, is to listen to “American as Pumpkin Pie: A History of Thanksgiving,” which can be found at http://www.backstoryradio.org/ After listing to the podcast, respond to the following. All answers should be 600 words and follow the formatting of the assigned papers in this class.

When did Thanksgiving start? In your answer, explain what is meant by “first” (Tradition? Repetition? Etc.) and describe the role Thanksgiving played in the mid-nineteenth century. Be specific and support your answers with historical examples from the program.

This is extra credit, and these will be graded, so if you decide to do it, keep in mind that nothing is guaranteed. A serious effort to address the issue must be demonstrated to receive any credit.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Quaby - My Dad had rheumatoid arthritis - mostly in his back, I think. I have had bursitis in my knees since I was in my 20’s, so I’ve probably inherited that tendency. I probably won’t do well with a job that requires a lot of standing, I’m allergic to anything that rubs on my skin - like footwear. I’ve got major rashes on my feet from wearing shoes a lot this weekend. They either hurt like a sunburn, or itch like crazy. Thankfully, my job skills are in areas where I wouldn’t have to stand all the time.

Tabby - I love history, but I just love reading it (either to myself or to my family). I’m not much for writing analytical essays about it. You probably ought to use the material your teacher gave to do your essay, but if you want additional information, go to Wallbuilders.com. You will find some very interesting history information there, and they have a lot of original historical documents to substantiate their information.

A community -crazy, individualistic, and caring - who attract others just because they are what they are.

Thank you for existing, thanks for laughter and (snerks), for wild flights of imagination, your concern for those who need it, and sharing of information.

Doc The good thing about the Christmas season is that you can find enormous coffee and soup cups out there - inexpensively - you just may have to get rid of the “gifts” packed into them That’s how I got my favorite cup I use all the time. I think it holds about 24 oz.

Terry I experienced the “Black Screen of Death** last week. I think it is all these updates I keep getting. Even though I click “cancel” They download them anyways.

BTW What’s anyone’s opinion of JAVA? They are trying to get me to download an update, Jave 7, but when I read the Licence agreement, I cancelled.

celecca - I’ve used digital for over a decade. Unless they are hidden in a different folder on the memory card, I don’t think you’ll find them. Although, those computer geeks that can retrieve deleted files off of hard drives, may know some tricks I’m not familar with myself. I know I think I’ve taken a picture, but if the batteries are low, sometimes it won’t save it to the memory card. But if you’ve seen in on the LCD screen after you’ve taken it, it should have been saved. If it was saved, it could have been accidently deleted before you copied them to your computer, if the right buttons got pushed somehow.

Tabby - Give me some hints - a Native American? British? They would be my two major people groups likely to do some thing like that. My guess would be the British, since I think they were the only ones other than the Spanish to be in the Western Hemisphere at that time. (Other than the Natives, of course.)

Tabby - Great! I was just looking in my son’s American History textbook, and it isn’t mentioned in there. We may have covered it, in our in-depth study, but that would have been a few years ago, and my memory isn’t THAT good. If I knew for sure we had covered it, my son would probably have remembered it. He has a great memory for all sorts of factoids. But he’s downstairs right now, playing with his older brother, so I didn’t ask him.

Pulling a Shika here… Tabby - If you’re referring to reminding me about my history reading, it is just because we’ve been discussing history. I have so many different “irons in the fire” that I need reminders of any kind, to remind me of what I need to do. When you get to my age, you might start to understand. (When I was younger, my memory was MUCH better!)

Well thank you Cleo, but if I wasn’t constantly distracted, I too would be on more and spend less time on work. You should compliment everyone, though, you all do what you have to do, and then come on here to visit with us. Oh well, today was a rough one, it was easy to be distracted. Say some prayers for my family, things aren’t going too well at home. It is time for me to get to bed. Peace and love all!
