Especially since it uses “grok”; wasn’t sure that anybody else still remembers such things.
I don’t think it’s a question of remembering - it’s a question of age and exposure. Once
you’ve read Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land, you never forget grok.
Oh! Calvin! Don’t do it you will be in soooo much trouble! His defence will probably go… ‘But Mom it’s not my fault you had been tansmogified into a vile, ugly and smelly alien, I did it for the good of the Earth…’
TheSkulker says: ’I don’t think it’s a question of remembering - it’s a question of age and exposure….’
It’s definately down to exposure in my case… I’m not quite that old
The monster has to be Calvin’s mother and Spaceman Spiff has to be Calvin so at the last panel, Mother tells Calvin to get in now! Why did Calvin test with his finger to feel if the water in the bathtub is hot enough or not before he gets into the bathtub? Mother knows what to do with that. Calvin doesn’t.
Heinlein was one of the best sci-fi authors ever. (along with Asimov) I used to wait breathlessly for a new book from him. My favorite is “The Number of the Beast” followed closely by “The Door Into Summer”.

I love the transition from the list of toxic chemicals in panel one to…but aside from that, it’s not much like earth.

Heinlein is ageless and timeless, his themes universal. Once told a political science course based on his book “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.”

Only Calvin could turn a nice warm bubble bath into some heinous space odyssey.
Love it.

The most obnoxious phrase for a six years old is: “Into the tub with you !”

This confirms it! Calvin is a Son-of-a-Zorg!

Trying to con his Mom into leaning over the tub. That takes guts!

SPACEMAN SPIFF my favorite. He could have had his own strip. And the world would have been better for it.
