When Calvin is singing that there is nothing to worry about, that is when you worry the most. Obviously his parents have already discovered this on several occasions.

Well, Nero fiddled while Rome burned so I guess Calvin singing while the house floods isn’t too much of a stretch.

I love the way the parents’ expressions progressively change in time with the lyrics. It’s the effect of songwriting at its best. ;)

“Time is of the essence!” “There is no time to waste!” The water level is ‘a drop in the bucket’ compared to what it will be if the parents don’t ‘get a move on’. “Get a Move On” - Eddie Money

Methinks thou dost protest too much, Calvin! It doesn’t serve your purpose, but it might save the house if the parents stop disputing about whose turn it is and ‘rise to the occasion’.

sjoujke, That’s a good comparison (parallel) between Nero and Calvin. Nero blamed the Christians; will Hobbes be the scapegoat for Calvin?

“Your Turn!” They just acquired Water Works. Now Calvin’s parents need to Pass Go and collect $200 to pay the cost for damages, and ‘pay the Piper’ (for having Calvin). OGTDA - “One good turn deserves another.” That saying applies to certain Arctic birds, as well.

George Orwell said “Advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill bucket.” Calvin’s song may just be the marketing campaign for his latest product! I can certainly hear that stick rattling!

It shows what a child can do when parents do not pay attention. Keeping Calvin busy might prevent a lot of mischief.

My mom always thought that Calvin & Hobbes reminded her of my brother with his stuffed animals. Many times she would cut out of strip from the paper and tape it to his bedroom door when it really seemed like it was him with a stuffed animal!

This qualifies as a Mom AND Dad emergency!

Also, break out the checkbook. I had a plumber fix two toilets and a faucet today and it cost me $134.

Anybody remember when $100 was serious money???

Well, in the first panel Mom and Dad look awful bored…..So at least Calvins screw up will relieve the boredom….UNLESS, mom and dad were trying to enjoy a quiet evening at home….in that case? hmm…. calvins screw up will probably result in a very interesting strip for tommorrow:-0

And yes, 100$ is serious money for me still!!!!

cholldekkgher stenst… I’d tell you the name of my refrigerator man, but I don’t want to give you ideas. I called one day, he was busy, but they said they’d let him know. A couple of hours later, he popped in, said he was across town waiting for a hot water heater to drain, so he decided to come over. He looked the equipment over, found the popped fuse (hard to see), fixed it, said, “That heater probably still isn’t drained, you know…” and left.

    I don’t think we got a bill.

@marvee: How did such parents get a kid like Calvin? The same way my parents got fraternal twins of the same basic temperament but having personality types that strongly contrast. The parents are more like my sister; I’m more like Calvin (without the uncontrolled mischief and mayhem).
