Depends on what one wants to accomplish, I suppose, although his paper on the Time-Traveling Tiger will stand in the School Hall of Fame for generations. :)
Zarnium is a rare element discovered by spaceman Spiff on one of his many travels, so far knowledge of it has not spread very much, so is not included on many of the periodic tables found on this insignificant planet.
Wonder if Calvin wasnāt on Mars last week as he thought, but traveled through a wormhole to an alternative universe, where āzarniumā is as common as dirt. Smuggled a pocketful back with him just in time to coat that alien-keeper.
Makes me wonder how big of a yard does Calvinās parents have? My parents have a fairly big one that I have to use a riding lawnmower on and if I use a push would take far too long. They live in the city does Calvinās parents live in the country where itās hilly?
we lived in the hilly part of Tulsa and had play space behind the houses accress the streetā¦it was wonderful with trees, dirt, grass and a spot for the boys to dig a cave, no girls allowed. best kid neighborhood in town.
I was so lucky that my boyās each had the same teacher who always took into consideration creativity and would give credit as along as they werenāt just doing it to be a smart alec. She had a knack for knowing the difference. She once told me that the Harry Chapin song āFlowers Are Redā song showed her what kind of teacher she wanted to be.
Just in case youād like to read those lyrics I think they made me a better mom tooā¦ smile
The little boy went first day of school
He got some crayons and started to draw
He put colors all over the paper
For colors was what he saw
And the teacher said.. What you doinā young man
Iām paintinā flowers he said
She saidā¦ Itās not the time for art young man
And anyway flowers are green and red
Thereās a time for everything young man
And a way it should be done
Youāve got to show concern for everyone else
For youāre not the only one
And she saidā¦
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
Thereās no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen
But the little boy saidā¦
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one
Well the teacher said.. Youāre sassy
Thereās ways that things should be
And youāll paint flowers the way they are
So repeat after meā¦..
And she saidā¦
Flowers are red young man
Green leaves are green
Thereās no need to see flowers any other way
Than they way they always have been seen
But the little boy saidā¦
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one
The teacher put him in a corner
She said.. Itās for your own good..
And you wonāt come out ātil you get it right
And are responding like you should
Well finally he got lonely
Frightened thoughts filled his head
And he went up to the teacher
And this is what he said.. and he said
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
Thereās no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen
Time went by like it always does
And they moved to another town
And the little boy went to another school
And this is what he found
The teacher there was smilinā
She saidā¦Painting should be fun
And there are so many colors in a flower
So letās use every one
But that little boy painted flowers
In neat rows of green and red
And when the teacher asked him why
This is what he said.. and he said
Flowers are red, green leaves are green
Thereās no need to see flowers any other way
Than the way they always have been seen.
But there still must be a way to have our children say ā¦
There are so many colors in the rainbow
So many colors in the morning sun
So many colors in the flower and I see every one

Nice to see those lyricsā¦I cried the first time I heard him sing that songā¦.As a teacher, though, Iād probably cry if I saw Calvin every day. I have had a few of them, and at the high school level, they are even more creative!
Wow! A week ago and Calvin was crying for his mommy when he and Hobbes saw a martian and today he actually brings an alien to class. I have to say I LOVED todays strip. And I really enjoyed the lyrics to the song Ldywldkat shared with us, thanks!
In Sunday School the children were told the story of how Lot was warned to flee the wicked city of Sodom with his family, but not to look back under any circumstances. The teacher then continued, ābut Lotās wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.ā āThatās nothing,ā said Joey. āMy mom was driving downtown last week. She looked back and turned into a telephone pole.ā
[Iāll bet a breathalizer test would have shown that her Zarnium level was over the legal limit.]
BC13 Around here we try not to notice the little things like every word spelled perfectly because, ābut for the grace of God, āere I goā. We all make grammatical mistakes every day of the year. What is most important on this board is what you have to say, what it says to us, and what it says about the person saying it. From your post I see you as an āeducation snobā. I hope I am totally incorrect.
I had a ācreativeā friend in grade school. He was a smart alec. Formost though he was smart. 3rd grade we would ride the swings on our bellies aāla superman. Under the swings are those bowls in the dirt from years of kids swinging and dragging their feet to stop. Charlie was swinging on his stomach and slapping his hands in the dirt on the back swing which made a little dust cloud kick up. The teacher on duty yelled at him to āstop playing in the dirtā! Charlieās reply: āItās not dirt, itās dehydrated mud!ā He got to stand on-line the rest of recess for his creative response.
Frum the eighth grade on I signed (forged) my motherās signature on all skool correspondence! Calvin will catch on soon.
SOME of you failed to see and appreciate the irony that I misspelled āfrom and schoolā yet could get correspondence right. It was all meant as self deprecating humorā¦. get it?
Brother J - As for fooling the teacher. I started the forgery when we moved. The new teacher had no point of reference to compare signatures. Hence easy peazy, lemon squeezy!

You keeping knocking them out of the park WoodEye.
Reminds me of the finger in the box with cotton and covered in ketchup. I got to do it once and I got a cool squeal from a friend when she opened the box.
I sent my son to private school for two years because they tried to take away his creativity in elementary school. Heās now studying to be an Art teacher while taking care of his family.
