Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
My granddaughter will say,âIâm in a bad mood grandmaâ to which Iâll ask why and she says,âI donât know I just am.â I tell her then Iâll leave you alone in your room and when you feel better you can come join me in whatever Iâm doing at the time. She usually shows up in a couple minutes. If she doesnât I check to see if sheâs playing quietly or what. One day she actually put herself down for a nap on the spare bed and slept for about a hour. Smart kid!
Man, if I had talked to my mother like that, I would have gotten smacked upside the head and sent to my room⊠Although in todayâs age, kids have social services on speed dial to âwarnâ their parents to behave towards them. My uncle had a great comeback to that one: âItâll take them awhile to get here, and in that time, I can do alot of damageââŠ
I tell my kids all the time theyâre lucky i love them or i would have traded them in a long time ago. itâs usually during play times though in a joking manner. they always just laugh at me.
Ya know, as much as I know itâs only a comic. Somedayâs I really wish Mom and Dad would offer some love and understanding to Calvin. For some reason, like today, it would have made me feel a little better if she had just hugged him.
@IrregularHonour,
Apparently, youâre new here. Have no fear!
A sense of humour (to match your Honour) is indispensible.
Most of my comments yesterday were directed at Statler and Waldorf (the Odd Couple) who do nothing but cast virulent invective, often in guileful subtlety, in my direction.
Iâd like to be friends with everyone, but a few will not have it that way.
My humor is generally pun and plays-on-words related. I suspect that with your admitted warped sense of humor, you might appreciate mine; just donât âtwistâ it. Your smileface is a bit offline, though. :o)
I donât attempt to draw blood or my humor would be a vain (vein) effort.
Did you check out my âbadâ pun yesterday in the midst of the fuhrer (furor)?
I trust our relationship will be âcordialâ. Iâll drink to that (non-alcoholic 100% juice). Stay tuned!
Antiquis temporibus, nati tibi similes in rupibus ventosissimis exponebantur ad necem - In the good old days, children like you were left to perish on windswept crags
I dunno, Aardvark359. Iâd argue that being able to make a joke proves you have a sense of humor. Being able to take one proves you also have a sense of perspective.
Or as I sometimes say (misquoting Aragorn from LOTR): a man who canât laugh at his own foibles is in fetters.
@rakkav⊠lots make jokes but few are funny. Aragorn had it right. Or as I sometimes say (quoting Judge Smails from CaddyShack):
âItâs easy to grin
when your ship comes in
and youâve got the stock market beat.
But the man worthwhile
is the man who can smile
when his shorts are too tight in the seatâ
Deep down Mom does love Calvin. Itâs hard sometimes with a kid like Calvin. I should know. My life is similar to hers. My little Calvin goes on strong all day without having a break. Iâm more exhausted than my girl when itâs bedtime.
I just read your comments from yesterday and the responses to them.
When you âdefendâ someoneâs right to post with a dig at that poster, it is not unexpected for the person you âdefendedâ to consider that an attack and respond in kind.
@Maizing - I respect your right to say that. I hope you picked up on the bits about having a sense of humor as well. My comments in this forum are offered largely in jest and with joy in my heart. It is regretable that some are too humorless to see that or have belief systems so brittle that they feel that they must vehemently defend every slight of their personal philosophies on a comic strip chat board. How can anyone not see the comedy in that? I find it hysterical! ;-)
The fact that Aardvark359 finds âitâ hysterical is exposing his disingenuous attitude. If he were genuine, he would lay off when someone âmisinterpretsâ his vituperative comments. Even his smileface is broken up over it. Of course, I also am âspeaking largely in jest and with joy in my heartâ as much as he is. The olive branch is still extended. I prefer to let bygones be bygones.
Aardvark359,
Feign innocence all you like. That was an insult, plain and simple. You seem to think it was cleverly veiled. You cannot let otherâs comments go without a response, and they are not even insults. Take your own advice.
Feign innocence? Hardly. Itâs called sarcasm. As in making fun of the absurd by pretending itâs not. It really is a pretty simple comedic ploy for those astute enough to get the joke.

When I was a kid I was threatened, often, with being sold to gypsies. The gypsies were way smarter.

I think the real question is how much was she paid to take him? And the answer would be not nearly enough.

Calvin, I thinks you need to chill. Youâre not making ANY friends lately.
Flash6060 about 15 years ago
@Ldywldkat
That IS love she is giving him. You just automatically know Calvin is unconventional in his love and its expression..
So he comes by it honestly. Mom and Dad just conceal it a bit differently (and express it so).
