Coming Soon š At the beginning of April, youāll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
You canāt ask a girl to do something without a reason. She will never do it. Moreover she will be on guard.
Calvin should have given any silly but tempting reason. Like asking her to guess how big it really is OR if she thinks there is a hole in the center of the āXā. That would have worked.
I had a similar experience with a friend who wanted me to stand on one end while he jumped on the other thinking it would catapult me through the air like on the tv programs. It didnāt work the first time because the board broke. When we found another one he found he couldnāt jump on the other end hard enough and he hit the ground a few times in the attempt. He tried all kinds of combinations with our other smaller friends but he never did get it right. All was not lost because we took turns trying all sorts of things on the other end and sending them flying.
āWhen a young man complains that a young lady has no heart, itās a pretty certain sign that she has his.ā Cdward is wrong in predicting that in 20 years Calvin and Susie will be married. Calvin and Susie will always be six years old. [Luckily for us!]
J.R., Youāre entitled to your own thoughts on the subject. I donāt see the āloveā, ever, in any of the strips, except that he loves to get her goat, and he always does, and she hates his guts. Iām not arguing with you, Iām just saying, hereās some of my evidence, show me yours. I provide plenty of it, but I never see anyone show us proof of this so called infatuation that a few of you talk about. I know none of my nephews like anything to do with girls yet, and some of them are now older than Calvin. Not to say it never happens, because me and my āCalvinā got married under the clothesline when we were 4, and it was all his doing. So I look forward to your showing me which panels cause you to believe this about Calvin & Susie.
Thatās how children that age tend to show affection. When confronted with a new and unfamiliar emotion, they react in a way they are comfortable and familiar with. Of course, they donāt know theyāre in love, yet.
Thatās opinion. Show me proof of this so called infatuation. There is none. Watterson didnāt put in this strip. It is never alluded to or implied. Just the opposite is. You can imagine it exists, but people also like to imagine what happens in the comic world after the comic is over. That doesnāt mean itās part of the real story.
@mrslukeskywaker, there were a few of the St. Valentineās Day cartoons that had them being happy that āHe noticed!ā or āShe caresā or things like that. Iām with thebird55 on this one. Not that he showed it often, but it was there at times.

cleokaya about 15 years ago
To much information. Calvin, I am ashamed at your lack of planning. Your whole approach was to obvious. This was one of your worst planned escapades.
MontanaLady about 15 years ago
Susieās not as āblondeā as you thought she was!!!
Miss.Fit about 15 years ago

āMorning, Grog!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
In this case you donāt have a snowballs chance of getting her!
You should have lured her to the spot, not asked her.
Good Morning All!
attyush about 15 years ago
Calvin, if Susie knew of your plan, the tooth fairy would have made you rich.
ladywolf17 about 15 years ago
Calvin! Your plan was doomed from the start.

We cal always try again, canĀ“t we, Calvin?
jrbj about 15 years ago
Itās just as well Calvin, Susie would have beat the snot out of you had you succeeded.
cdward about 15 years ago
In 20 years theyāre either going to be married, or sheāll be a judge, and heāll be standing before her as defendant. Could go either way.

Calvin, last week you sold your soul to hit Susie with a snowball. What do you have to sell now?
bacom65 about 15 years ago
weāll. I am really enjoying all of this. Your comments are sometimes better than the actual comics!!! thanks for the laughsā¦.
Ray_C about 15 years ago
Calvin, you should have told her NOT to stand on the X.
ejmMissouri about 15 years ago
He must have been watching too many Road Runner cartoons.
Getting the Road Runner to stand on the X never worked for Wile E Coyote either.
RubberRules about 15 years ago
women dont like high-handed men anymore. calvin, you should be in a romance cartoon, try that on Yenny.
lazygrazer about 15 years ago

Gumshoe about 15 years ago

Dinner
khpage about 15 years ago
There is an odd sort of darkness that has been creeping into this cartoon of late, or is it just me that has noticed this?
BigHug about 15 years ago
@ Mrs. Walker Hmmm if only mom could repackage her food and sell it to the military. Secret weapon lol.
littledutchboy about 15 years ago
I would love to see Calvin and Susie at 18 or so. Susie runs rings around Calvin. I want to see how that looks 10 or 15 yrs down the road.
khpage C&H has always been dark. Heās no Dennis the Menace.
mrsluke: funny clip.
mrslukeskywalker about 15 years ago
Littledutchboy, it really would be funny to see. I bet she married Moe, if they would have gone past 6, that is. Heās more on her level.
khpage, Calvin always WAS dark. Itās hard not to see it after even a week of being a new reader.
Check this one out:
Thatās hilarious, and itās TOTALLY Calvin.
caucel about 15 years ago
Lol Calvin, next time you can say ĀØI kiss you if you dont stand in the XĀØ I sure that her do it. :)
lindz.coop Premium Member about 15 years ago
Mean ole Susie ā refusing to be target practice. Calvin just canāt win with women ā Mom or Susie.
Rakkav about 15 years ago
āNot now, not everā? And all in caps, too? My, my, Mrs. Skywalker. Stranger things have happened, and often in just this ironic way.
There are enough hints dropped in the history of this strip to make the majority opinion more than defensible.
mexdr1958 about 15 years ago
Johanan,
I second thet motion.
