Calvinās probably too weak to move a ladder of sufficient size, but stilts he can haul around. Itās getting up and down from them with or without cargo that I want to see.
Man, I canāt believe (actually, yes I can) how much we two were and remain alike. Iāve had narratives like his running through my head when I do almost anything since I was at least his age.
We live in our own little worlds, but thatās OKā¦ everybody knows us there.
Hello to all on a drizzly day! I have high school students who still resemble Calvin, but there are a couple of Hobbes aa well. I give a Dā, but only when there is hopeā¦
LuvH8 said (yesterday),
āHello Puddleglum2!ā
I couldnāt have said it better myself!
I was so overwhelmed that I laughed at it. lol
BTW, Hello LuvH8!
Calvin is really āsticking his neck outā on this one. Itās probably only giraffe food in the cookie jar, anyway.
That would be a real comedown, and even more so if Mom ācatchesā him.
This may be why I wasnāt allowed to have stilts, or a pogo stick. I was a particularly skilled shelf scaler.
In this situation, I would have used the chair to get up onto that counter, where I would retrieve the cookie jar, and eat until I was either full, or until I got caught.
One of my cats once managed to climb up to the top cupboard and pried the door open ā for catnip. Nothing was safe ā just like Calvin!!
Mike Firesmith ā Calvin has all but failed the bug project and is now supposed to be doing a book reportā¦.
Linda Arney ā I have college students that call 3 days after the final exam to ask if theyāve missed anything lately ā and I donāt give D- - ās.
I wish I had this kidās sense of balance. Stilts look a tad too low to deal with the cookie jar. Mebbe Calvin should just have Hobbes jump up on the counter and push the jar onto the floor, or is that the excuse we see coming here?
I found my son on the top shelf above the refrigerator when he was little getting a toy dart gun his grandparents got him for Christmas that I thought he was too young for then. I couldnāt believe he could get up there when he was three years old. Iāll try to make a picture for you of this amazing feat. There was a counter next to the fridge. There was a box built around where the fridge fit in with a shelf near the ceiling with a shelf above it near the ceiling. The fridge and shelf was made invisible by shutter type sliding/folding doors. When I found him on the shelf I was scared to death and asked him how he got up there, he then showed me as he crawled down. He grabbed the shelf and swung around until he hung onto the shelf, then put his feet on top of the fridge as he slide hand and foot across both, grabbed the wall partition and the top shelf and swung over to the counter to jump about two feet above it, opened the bottom cupboard door, climbed down the shelves like a ladder and down to the floor. He stood there very pleased with himself and said, āJust like that Momma, it was easy!ā
FYI You hold on to the stilts by pressing them between your body and upper arm (armpit). This frees the hands for other nefarious work.
Havenāt seen stilts around since skateboards hit town. Pogo sticks either. Miss them and the fun we had playing outside not stuck to the computer or cell phone texting!
When I was 2 years olf I pulled out the drawers in the kitchen each drawer a little less than then one below and created stairs and took all of the dry ingredients out of the cabinet and my parents found me on the floor with a big wooden spoon mixing everything aroundā¦ I was making a cake just like Mommyā¦.
My parents took photographs and after they stopped laughing got out the vacuum cleanerā¦ thank goodness it was all dry ingredientsā¦
