Great, yesterday had to be the day Yukoner leaves on his trip and I didn’t get to wish him well. I remember him talking about his upcoming trip another time and I wished him well then so I guess that’ll have to count! We’ve had a busy couple days here with family stuff and didn’t get back until late last night.
All I could think of was, “I’m thinking you should of picked a bigger kite!” Not the greatest comment in the world but what came to mind at the time.
“I’m thinking we should’ve picked a smaller cliff!”
“What do you mean we, paleface?”
A smaller cliff would have meant a smaller fatal injury!
‘A stitch in time saves nine!’
You should have read Cliff’s Notes, Calvin!
“That’s it. Think majestic!”
Sometimes Hobbes is a ‘royal’ pain!
The impact at landing might cause a royal pain, also.
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
couldn’t put Calvin together again.
“Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” - Proverbs 16:18
You’re the fall guy again, Calvin!
“The Fall Guy” starring Lee Majors
I wonder why most strips didn’t end with a scene from the front of a hospital, or at least an ambulance! Calvin must have either had 49 lives or the rejuvenation properties of a Time Lord!
Hobbes could save him if he jumped out there and held onto Calvin when they hit…. you know tigers have springs and bouncy, bouncy…. oops! that’s pooh…. I think you may be out of luck here, Calvin… just tuck and roll, you’re a tough lil guy…
@Linda Arney
Of course not. That’s not funny and it demands another strip to show him alright and continuing the series. The way the last panel closed it was funny.
This is why we love Bill’s comics so much: They always show the lighter side of everything, including the reason why Calvin is jumping off a cliff.
What about those penguins what’s up with that.
Calvin I hope that cliff isn’t too big your going to get hurt real bad. Just what mom needs. Maybe you’ll get lucky and land in some bushes I hope not thorn type.
My friend would run down the roof of a wood shed to get speed then land in his moms garden.
That did not work very good, hard on the garden and his mom warmed his pants good for the damage he did.
If the Air Traffic Controller tells Calvin that traffic is really stacked up and he will have to go around in order to make an approach and a landing things are REALLY going to get difficult. Love your comment, grazer…..
Dino, et.al., years ago in Y Indian Guides, our tribe built a 12’X4’x4’ box kite using lashed together carpet bamboo poles and nylon fabric. It required more than 4 stout grown men to fly it on 900 pound test nylon line. Surprisingly, it did well even in a 15 MPH wind. We joked about jacking up one of the trucks, removing a tire and using the rim for a rewinder and wondered if the FAA was going to come after us for not having an N number on it. I mounted a camera in the center with a separate small line for tripping the shutter. Got some great aerial shots, but only one at a time because this was before the days of auto wind or digital. Fond memories of how excited the boys were at the sight and the hard work they did helping with the construction.
This is the one that inspired my login name. Just the right mix of dreamy daring and spooky reality, all done up in the inimitable C&H style. Warm and wistful meets utterly mad.
Wow! He’s falling at 9.81 meters per second squared! If he falls for even 3 seconds then he is gonna hit at 96 feet per second! Or about 66 mph. That kite won’t cause that much air friction! Poor Calvin!
Good night all!
Depends how high the cliff is, Poindexter. If he could fall for 3 seconds, the cliff would be 88.3 m high, or almost 290 feet. If it’s only about 40 feet, he wouldn’t fall more than 1.6 seconds, and would only reach about 36 mph–still bad, but not nearly so bad.
