    When we would come back down from the Adirondack Mountains and see a traffic light and cars etc. as in civilization, I was always disappointed, knowing our 2-3 weeks of camping was over so quick……………………..

    For Calvin camping was the worst, sometimes I can’t blame him and be ready to go. For hubby and I went to MO for entertainment we had a blast. That went to fast. Remember 9/11 always I will.

    I’m too lazy to look it up, so would someone please tell me why “shake a leg” means hurry up?

    For mom, Calvin has probably been a test of patience since the moment of conception.

    @sanfan

    Very indistinct, may be a development from a reference to dancing from the early 1800s. It may mean to dance faster as a colloquialism. How it developed from there … who knows?

    He should know. Calvin probably acts just like he did as a kid. Calvin’s grandmother probably thinks of it as payback.

    If Calvin were from the UK, he might say, “Get a legger on!”

    Little Sister, If you know you’re cute, why do you hate to get your photo taken? “Smile for the birdie”, or “Say cheese!”

    Johanan Rakkav, RUN!!! I knew dinosaurs and humans were contemporaneous! That comment sometimes brings a (Noah’s) Flood of reactions and responses.

    Dream on, Dad!!!!! Just because Calvin doesn’t like camping doesn’t mean he’s not your son! In this particular instance, he takes after his mother, who doesn’t like camping either.

    Though you have to wonder. His Mom has brown hair, and his Dad has black hair. How do they get a blond haired son?

    Mom and Dad both had dark black hair. All three of us kids were very blond headed till about 5 or 6 years old (except for our sister who remained blond). Alas, my brother and I now have evolved from dark locks to silver, but still all there.

    Next time Dad should go hunting/fishing with his buddies, and let Calvin and Mom fend for themselves at the mall, or whereever they want. Dad, just make sure you take Mom’s credit card with you just to make sure you don’t wind up totally in hock for her end of the vacation….

    1974 - a different sort of vacation/real life transition shock:

    Going from driving a 30’ motorhome for 2 weeks back to the subcompact we’d left in the garage. It felt like I was sitting on the road!
