Hello everyone.! Enjoy reading the comments and finally decided to sign on. Calvin & Hobbes is one of my all time favourite comics. Is his mom using a sewing machine? Don’t think I’ve ever noticed her sewing before.
When I went through OTS, we made our beds with one sheet and the blanket tucked in tight over it. We hid the cover sheet and used it at night to cover us. In the mornings, we’d hide the cover sheet, make a few tucks in the blanket and be done.
Rise22: I’ve always wanted to learn how to make quilts (my deceased mother-in-law’s quilts were just beautiful). Unfortunately, I’ve got absolutely no talent or skill whatsoever when it comes to using a sewing machine. I *do* however cross stitch, which also makes something very beautiful with a needle and thread … just in a different way.
Love the look on Calvin’s face in the last panel. Maybe if Mom manages to get enough work as a seamstress she can afford to give him the $50. NOT. Calvin, when you get old and live alone as I do, you can largely ignore your bed until your sheets turn into a science project…..
^… & when they become a science project, throw them out & go to JCPenney’s.

Stupendous Man’s imaginary clothing corresponds to what Calvin is wearing. He wears a mask similar to the ones he uses to play Calvinball, but with a spandex hood and a cape that his mother made for him. Calvin only possesses the crimson cape and cowl; his imagination supplies the rest of a colorful spandex outfit.

That approach never worked for me. I’m such a restless sleeper that the sheets and blankets were wrapped around me if it was cold or all over the place if it was warm and I had to make the bed from scratch anyway.

I guess that was a ‘no’…

That will be a hard piece of work!!

I think it was more likely a “GET BACK TO YOUR ROOM AND MAKE YOUR BED OR YOU’RE GROUNDED!”.

Mom’s work is never done with Calvin around.

You can look at the wallet with your eyes, not with your hands.

Well, maybe like Cadet James T. Kirk you can get a commendation for original thinking.

Maybe Calvin should use his duplicator instead and get one of his copies to make the bed…what could possibly go wrong!

I think Popular Science likes to keep the lingo pretty kosher in their publication. Now, if you interviewed with Rolling Stone…
TheSkulker about 14 years ago
From the looks of Mom’s expression in panel 3, that request was not one she expected.
moronbis about 14 years ago
steve26, Calvin knows himself well. His duplicator will be no different.
Maybe his duplicator will also try to make a robot or another duplicator.

Love the look on Mom’s face on the third panel .. rofl ..
I am sure the reaction was much more than ‘do your bed or you’re grounded’
I guess Calvin is gonna repeat the choice words he just heard .. ;-)

calvin, if you sleep on the floor, you won’t have to make your bed

Sewing? What’s that? My wife goes into anaphalactic shock when she touches a needle!

Welcome aboard gforgina. Fer Lefer, I like to think of myself as quirky.

twypsi, funny comment - since I make quilts….
Rakkav about 14 years ago
Eventually Calvin does make a duplicate which is his “good side” and does all his work for him. Now what could possibly go wrong with that?
Er, what couldn’t? :))

welcome gforgina!
Love mom’s WTH look. Wattersons facial expressions are one of my favorite things about this strip

It’s not just the face, it’s the “whole body” expression that he gets so well. GOT so well. Not many are really good at that.
ratlum about 14 years ago
I felt like that a few times myself.

Didn’t Mom make Calvin’s superhero (Stupendous Man?) costume?
JP Steve Premium Member about 14 years ago
YES
Costume
Stupendous Man’s imaginary clothing corresponds to what Calvin is wearing. He wears a mask similar to the ones he uses to play Calvinball, but with a spandex hood and a cape that his mother made for him. Calvin only possesses the crimson cape and cowl; his imagination supplies the rest of a colorful spandex outfit.
