The only time I remember the teacher having us bow our heads and praying â and everyone joined in â was the day President Kennedy was shot. Otherwise we never had any âcompulsoryâ prayer.
How such things as Christmas pageants constitute government-sponsored prayer has never been explained to me in a way that makes sense. But â it is what it is today. Oh â and suspensions do happen for praying in school. And there are fresh lawsuits often enough for any kind of prayer at all.
