OK, so Rufus (not a Wallet relative, right?) is welcome but Gertie (a non-Wallet relative) is not OK? One of the strengths of this strip has been that it constantly develops and incorporates new situations and individuals. While I’m sure that some of us commentators could have written a tighter story line, I hope we can focus on the story at hand without a knee-jerk response to the new. The link below tells more about some of the characters that were introduced that we now consider as always having been there. Enjoy.
Good post wsnaider! There was one from Timothy a few days back that again should be repeated on here as some of the whiners, just keep whinning. He stated that it is hard work for a cartoonist to come up with story lines every day and keep readers happy. I’m one of them, If I don’t like the storyline, I won’t post repeatedly on here. The ones that complain need to think what has happened to a lot of strips just because they centered only around the main characters. To give you a few just lately that has happened is “Pink Panther”. Another, a writer even commented that it was getting harder to keep his strip going and recently got married is “Fox Trot” which is only published now on Sundays and not throughout the week like it was done previously.
wsnaider: The article about the GA strip mentions that Melba was added in 1973, but does not mention Rufus or Joel. I know they were not original characters, but when were they added?

Jim Scancarelli doesnt need to hijack any one elses comic. He’s an obviously talented and gifted artist who has devoted his life to continuing the same american comic icon you ridicule every day. There is a huge amount of evidence that he shares the same vision and passion as Frank King and Dick Moores. His characters have depth and fit in well with the established GA family. The only thing plain to see is that you enjoy slamming Jim Scancarelli.

I dont think so. Your comment just made me laugh, he went on for ages about the color on Shoe. I saw him post recently so I know he’s still around, just not here. Cheers!

Yup, that’s Rufus. But is he really holding Igor? [Pibgorn]

Not now, Rufus. She still has to find her Wallet.

Gertie must be allergic to cats. She’s trying to avoid inhaling the dander.

Well, for those of you who wanted to see the “classic” GA characters…your wish has been granted.
But where’s Walt-o?

Kitty does look like a zombie in panel 2. That’s what probably scared Gertie.

Hey! At least save the poor kitty!

Good God, Rufus! How deep did you dig that one that you couldn’t get out?

Gertie looks like she can’t stand the smell of Rufus or Kitty.

Face to face, Gertie thinks it’s the cat whose doing the talking. Good reason to freak out.
