Momma’s little boy getting out into the real world is kind of tough.

That’s something we have to do today and its a shame. A little kid can’t walk to a friends’ house with out being accosted(sp?) by some pervert!

Hey, while Mom is following Mike, who is watching Lizzie?

Children are precious. Letting go is hard. But the child rarely understands that until they are older.

When I was little, I went to a friends house for lunch. She lied to me and said that her granparents (who were raising her) had called my mom to let her know. I guess she told her grandparents tha same thing. I couldn’t understand what the big fuss over me was when I got back to school. My parents had the police looking for me! I learned never to go anywhere after that without phoning home first. This was in a small town in the 60s.

Elly spies on her son, Michael where he goes, eh!

I still remembered and flashed back when I was a toddler, I walked away from home till the neighbor saw me walking on the sidewalk with the busy street. She asked the saleman to take me home where I should belong to. My mother scolded me not to walk away from home because I was toooo way young and “toddler” age. Now I am an adult and then, I can go independently where I want to as I please. Ha! sheeshhh!

When my son was 3, he used to walk to my parents house alone. There was an apartment building between our buildings. I would call my mom and I could see my son until just after my mom could see him. He was completely safe (we knew most of the neighbors) and he felt like a BIG BOY and he never knew he was being watched.

When I was about 11, my school finished earlier than I had expected so I decided to walk home myself rather than wait for mum. The look on her face when I rang the doorbell was just priceless.

    Shikamoo MB - Me too!

Green_engineer, OUCH! I know what you mean about the look on your mother when you rang the doorbell after you walked from school. She must be so mad!

I grew up in the 70s and walked to school for all 13 years. I did get in trouble one day when I wasn’t home at the usual time after Kindergarten. My mom called the school, and they confirmed that I left with the other kids. I eventually got home very late, and told my mom all about the kitten I found and played with for a while. She never told me if I got in trouble or she was just relieved that I got home safely, but now that I have a Kindergartener, I can’t imagine what I would do.

heh, my kids walk to and from school, always. I used to walk with them the first week, when they were 6 and after that they walk by themselves. But then the surroundings aren’t dangerous around here (one street to cross, not very heavy traffic) and I really don’t think a child has been kidnapped here ever!
