I think that black cat might be a doctor who has taken the form of a cat. When he says “I’m not an accredited physician in this state”, he means when he’s in his feline state, or form. He might be a witch doctor, and that would explain how he is able to debilitate Kitty, and usurp his place in the crook of Rufus’s arm. Diabolical!
The wisdom of diversions like Gertie is beginning to be apparent. Such diversions helped put off the inevitable. Since Gasoline Alley ages its characters, then it looks like Kitty and Walt are going to be at center stage soon. Very sad. But again, inevitable.
I was trying to remember when Kitty first came around. It seems to me when I first started reading GA Joel and Rufus were trying to get their mule and cart across a rickety bridge. Joel needed help, but Rufus wouldn’t put Kitty down. They dropped the jug, if memory serves. Must have been 1968-69 ish? Anyone remember this?
That cat must be 30 years old, maybe it’s finally her time.
Actually Kitty is over 40. I’ve never seen a cat under or surrounded by a blanket unless it’s the end. That would be sad if Kitty’s last thought is “Walt Wallet outlived me!”
Right on MaxStarman! But I’m not complaining. If readers want to see Joel act stupid, Rufus even more so. The only one thats smart is Kitty. Probably why Kitty is sick, is because of a memory recall of Chef Meowice cat food.

That memory could be making Kitty sick, but I still believe something far more sinister is at work. A veterinarian will not be helpful. Upton O. Goode must be consulted, stat.
My cat always expected to have his own personal blanket at night. When I forgot to cover him up with his blanket at night - he would jump up on my bed and burrow under the covers with me until I got up and tucked him in properly.
I read about a cat that lived in a nursing home. Whenever he hung around a resident for a few days that person would die, it seemed the cat knew. Perhaps Boogie Woogie has that power.
have you ever seen Chessie, the mascot cat of the Chesapeake & Ohio railroad? She spends all her time tucked up under a blanket with her head on a pillow.
I too have a kitty-shaped lump under the covers of my bed during the day. He comes out at night to play fetch (yes, I said my cat plays fetch).

Kitty just needs some exorcise.

Oh no I hope Rufus’ cat isn’t fixing to go to the Rainbow Bridge. What a sweet kitty.

BigGrouch brings up a good point: Why does everyone in this strip age except Rufus, Joel, and Kitty?

It seemed like they were doing that bridge bit constantly.

I was desperate for the GerdieBerdie show to be over, but it’s all good now.

countoftowergrove, I had a cat that hid under blankets all the time. She just waited for someone to get into bed so she could bite their toes.

Many times I’d come into my bedroom to find a cat-shaped lump under the comforter at the foot of my bed.
