Couldnât resist doing an âeditted blonde jokeâ (substitute âJonâ in for âblondeâ).
Jon once brought home a turkey from the market and then burnt it to ashes in 15 hours. When asked by the FD why this happened, he explained âwell, the instructions on the turkey stated â1 hour per 4 poundsâ; since I weigh 160, I figured it would be 40 hours cookingâ.
doctortoon says:
The oven is that large white box thing in the kitchen, right?
My girlfriend used it to make food, but Iâm not sure how.
I usually only use the microwave and toaster.
THATâs bachelor, baby!âŠ.
Doc, add a George Foreman Grill and you will be âupscaleâ!
Oh my gosh! Men donât know how to use the oven. Look at Bobby Flay, Alton Brown and other chefs use the oven to bake something deliciously. I use the oven a lot and bake something easily and deliciously. All the bachelor men need to go back to home economic class at the school and learn how to use the oven. DUH! Sheeshhh!
As a college student, I rented a house with 5 other guys. I was the cook. They all loved me. But I never cleaned the oven. 2 years later, the landlord does the home inspection, and everything is no worse than he expected for renting to college students - except he said we had to clean the oven. It wasnât self cleaning. It took us 2 days and many cans of oven-off.
But now you bachelors are the âgreenâ cooks - the oven turns out to be the least efficient device in the kitchen, fuel-wise (and self-cleaning, of course, burns even more fuel). Any other choice is more efficient. The microwave is best, followed by stove top, toaster, toaster oven, grill, etc.
@lincolnhyde - self-cleaning ovens are actually the most efficient. They are more efficient by far than most of the other methods you mention (which except for the microwave dump most of their heat into the air). Self cleaning ovens are very well insulated, and only lose significant heat when you open the door. A good cook doesnât do that very often.

Q: What would Jon do if it had been a âcontinuous-cleanâ?
(Iâm guessing he would think it will never get dirty at all)
Chuck1002 almost 16 years ago
Donât you clean it by taking out the old aluminum foil from the bottom and putting in new?
jeffy44123 almost 16 years ago
Men are useless and incapable in the kitchen with exception of Bobby Flay and Alton Brown.

When my husband was a bachelor, he & his buddies never cleaned - just moved every couple of years. Iâm so glad I didnât work for their landlords!

Chuck1002: even that needs an order-of-magnitude higher commonsense than Jon has.

Schmooze and Librarian: Count me in as a Gay Puree lover. Robert Goulet was wonderful as Jean-Tom too.
